This is not a state park. You need a park pass specifically for Lake Wanahoo to get in. The lady at the gate was very nice and helpful. She sold us our passes and waved us through every time we came or went. It's a nice campground with pretty views of the lake, but there were lots of ticks! (We visited in July) Every time we went outside we had a couple of ticks on our ankles or pant legs when we got back inside. Not much shade in the campground either. The dump station is on the opposite side of the lake from the campground and cannot be reached without getting back on the main highway. Normally, that would just be a minor inconvenience. Kayak and paddle board is very popular as lake gets smooth as ice at times.. nice no wake fast boats or jet skis.. love to take drive from omaha on a off day or wknd when we are not at our other lake .
