This is actually a really nice little site. I pulled in early about 3 or 4:00 p.m. And got site number 28 and it was very nice nobody was there. A family with a few kids came in later that evening towards dark and took a site of above me and I could not hear them or see them all night long. Despite the highway noise and despite being able to hear other campers below me evidently at the water's edge, I felt very secluded with all the trees. That night it rain for several hours so it must have rained several inches but because of the Sandy conditions the water wasn't a problem and it drained quickly. The bathroom look good it's a pit toilet and there are firings in some of the sites. I chose site 28 because that was at the end of the loop and the most secluded and spacious. Even wildlife feel comfortable here to walk around. I would come here again as it is pretty well kept by the state or county. I think the entrance fee for non residents is a little obnoxious but I understand things cost a lot to maintain these days. There's also garbage can to put your trash and when you leave. The only negative thing I can really say beyond the entrance fee is that I see they pushed up with a dozer a lot of deadfall on the edges and that could have actually been used...
Read moreNice tent campsites right by Long Pine Creek. All tent sites have a fire ring. Some of the tent sites have covered picnic tables. The pad sites were on the small side but seemed to be nice and secluded. There is a short one-mile level hike along the creek. There are a few tent campsites on that trail if you want to pack your gear in to be extra secluded. There are only vault toilets. Somebody keeps them reasonably cleaned and stocked. The truck traffic on Highway 20 can be a bit noisy, but it dies down at night. The stream (Sept 2016) was about a foot deep, crystal clear and fast moving. I had no luck fishing there, although I did see some smaller fish...
Read moreI love the Sandhills so my review is biased, but this place is perfection. I'm a city dweller so at least once a year I make a pilgrimage to North-Central / western Nebraska and the drive alone is worth the 4-7 hour trek.
Crystal clear streams and lakes, excellent bass and trout fishing, expanses of miles upon miles with no sign of civilization accompanied by an awe-inspiring backdrop of mother nature's finest work. I'm from Lincoln but my heart belongs to the Sandhills.
That said, long pine SRA is a very nice little spot to hang your hat and enjoy some quality time taking in the scenery...
