Staff seems nice but also forced to police people to heavily. We were one of maybe two people in the entire camp ground and payed extra to tent camp at a spot with electric outlet since we were out here for work and needed to charge things. After a day a very sorry sounding employee let us know that we had set up our tents on the wrong side of the parking pad, when we were at the end of a row. He said his boss didn't like people setting up there tents on that side and we had to move everything over. It just didn't make sense because the other side is where the fire pit is and what they were asking was really not safe but seemingly more aesthetically pleasing for this boss person. When there is not a flat maintained tent pad sometimes you have to work with what you got or edge in somewhere if it is the only flat spot or in this case when the space is narrow away from fire pits for safety. I have camped here before and followed all the posted rules but this really felt like we were being pushed around for no reason. Again the entire campground was empty because of the road closures making it more of a drive and we were what appeared to be within our...
Read moreJust returned from a trip to Niobrara State Park. We stayed in cabin #8 which has a wonderful view off to the east. This park has views for miles, amazing sunrises and sunsets and plenty to do for adults and kids, alike.
Two critical flaws kept me from giving a five-star rating. 1. The cabins do not have fire pits. They do have outdoor grills, but these are no substitute for a "real" fire pit. 2. Whoever determined the placement of the two cross pieces in the windows of the screened porch (first photo) didn't take into account the average height of a seated adult. The top cross piece blocked the river from view. I'm pretty sure I understand the purpose of the cross pieces (to keep people from sitting in the window sills and leaning against the screens), but the same thing could have been accomplished without blocking the view.
Beyond that, a lovely, scenic park with neat and tidy cabins, tent & RV camping and even a swimming pool.
One final note, if you plan to hike down to the old railroad bridge, you'll need to change your plans. The bridge appears to have been washed away and "death and injury" signs are posted at...
Read moreI don't see how any of you can give this park more than 1 star. Who designed the camping pads here? These are the hardest sites to get backed into. All i can see is how many campers we can get in one area. Your fire pit is right next to the camper beside you. Not much for privacy in this campground. Paying for a shower after I payed good money for a campsite is ridiculous. The showers are not clean, the toilets have not been cleaned after someone blew one up and left it filthy. We had to ask the campground host to restock the toilet paper for my girls to be able to use the bathroom. He acted like it was such a bother to go do his job. Where is the cleaning staff? Obviously, none of you have ever stayed in the South Dakota State Park system. They clean their showers and restrooms every day. Bugs are always difficult to keep out, but the toilets smell like cleaning agents at least. Sorry Nebraska, your parks don't even rank in my top 20 for parks to stay at. You can do so much better. Look to the North if you want to learn how to accommodate your state...
