The superintendent of the park has favorites that he protects while they make wild racist innuendos and threaten vandalizing your property for playing 101.5 at 2 pm on a friday. If this is your idea of a camping experience you want your children on, this is the place.
When the superintendent was originally asked to come take care of this he was on vacation but once the warden was contacted he claimed to the warden and us his guys were lying and he wasn't on vacation and was clocked on for the weekend. Then the very next sentence out of his mouth was " but I didn't think these guys are capable of what you are saying when i was originally told about it and you look white to me." We were out here to relax with our children. The person who should of at minimum been moved was instead told he was fine and I was told the next time there was a problem I was moved.
He admitted to the superintendent and game warden that he threatened vandalism but it was because my music was too loud.
Mind you I tried talking rationally to him but he kept acting more and more aggressive to show off for his wife that was gripping a piece inside thier RV and thier grown 2 sons that looked down in shame from behind thier mom. This all came to me unprovoked. I was nice to the guy just earlier while he lost it about someone else taking his campsite next to both of ours and that he is a regular. Which brings me to the last part. When he was losing it he told me the superintendent was a dear friend and that he would be contacting him personally as all great narcissist do.
We finished our weekend off with the park staff parked outside my coach every morning that I came out of it and my two porch lights getting knocked out by something that made the plastics clips unsnap and a hole in my lowest outside speaker. Thank God the superintendent knew that he wouldn't do bad things and not believe a family that had nothing to gain.
When we first pulled in we were jaw dropped by the upkeep and amenities that the campground came with but all that means nothing if it's the wild west trying to protect your belonging from the superintendent's best friends and thier drunk...
Read moreThis campground was a nice enough place to spend the night on our drive through the state.
Pluses: lots of open space 2 picnic tables (but one had been broken up for fire wood) $13 tent sites. Great price. several playgrounds with swings, slide, monkey bars and climber cool windmills tons of fireflies. I have a lot of negatives (see below) but I would recommend staying here just for all the fireflies. I have never seen so many. It was magical. 10 minutes away from Cabelas and the Archway in Kearney, which we visited the next morning.
Minuses: there was a lot of trash around in the ground and in the ponds. Gross. We were pretty shocked that the campers don't clean up after themselves. the bathrooms were so gross. So. Very. Gross. Stinky. Not sure when they were last cleaned. And no one seemed to know how to flush their number twos down. (Push the button on the wall!) freeway noise. This is not a nice quiet campground. If you want a peaceful quiet place where you just hear the frogs croaking, drive a few miles off the interstate. we weren't sure we could drink the water in the pumps. It wasn't labeled and we could see a pump coming from a nearby pond. the $13 tent sites weren't labeled. And they didn't have parking spots. You had to park a ways away and lug your gear. No...
Read moreWindmill State Park exceeded our expectations. This was our first time staying here and we did not know what to expect. There is easy access off the interstate. The roads in the campground are all paved along with each site having a paved driveway. The small lakes are nice but we did not get a chance to swim at the beach. There are clean flush toilets and 3 showers each for men and women in each building. The campsites were not too close so there is good privacy compared to private campgrounds. The campground was only 25% full at the end of August so it was delightful. The only con was there is some highway noise due to interstate only being about 1/4 mile away. This died down after midnight so it was not too much of an issue for us. I would think being in a tent might be a bit noisy unless you are a deep sleeper. A good number of first come, first serve campsites for tents. So there is a good chance you will get in even during the summer high season without a reservation if your equipment is small. We would stay here again in...
