Pearson Park in Lawrence County is a hidden gem for families, nature lovers, and anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful day outdoors. The park spans over 100 acres and offers something for everyone—playgrounds, picnic shelters, sports courts, a swimming pool, and even an indoor ice rink (Hess Ice Rink). Whether you’re planning a family reunion, a casual walk, or a community event, this park delivers.
The one-mile Pearson Park Loop trail is perfect for a light, scenic walk with kids or dogs. It’s well-maintained, shaded, and easy enough for all ages. The park also has tennis courts, sand volleyball, basketball courts, baseball fields, and a beautiful gazebo often used for weddings and concerts.
We love bringing the kids here—there’s plenty of space to run around, clean restrooms, and tons of picnic areas with grills. In the summer, they host a great 4th of July event with fireworks and music. The community center also offers year-round programs, and they’re currently making even more improvements, including new ADA-friendly paths, pickleball courts, and better signage.
Overall, it’s one of the cleanest and best-kept parks in the area. A great spot to spend the day, get some fresh air, or just relax under the trees. Highly recommend it to locals and anyone visiting the New...
Read moreMy husband and I have been enjoying the Christmas lights at Pearson Park for several years now. Y'all do such a fantastic job and there are so many entertaining, fun and beautiful Christmas light displays throughout the park. We actually found Pearson Park during the pandemic when we were trying to find Cascade Park, but Pearson Park has actually become one of our top favorites... What an excellent job with the placement of the lights, and there are so many cool light displays that move, and it is just absolutely fun and beautiful!
If you do make it to Pearson park for the wonderful drive-thru light display, they now have a donation box, but you could possibly miss it, but it's right on the drive-in, right in the beginning once you start seeing lights and I would highly recommend donating, because this park has come such a long way and these volunteers are amazing!!! Thank y'all so much for another wonderful and beautiful year of lights and just so much to see and so well laid out... It's...
Read moreVery nice park! Beautiful year round with lots to do in the summer. There's a good pool, lots of pavillions, a spacious gazebo, a baseball field, a tennis court, and a relaxing trail.
The indoor center is nice, although I wish it were open more. The outdoor water fountain also is only available in the summer, so bring some drinks other times of year.
For cyclists, like myself, there's a spot to lock your bike near the tennis court. But there's also plenty of improvized spots if you'd prefer to keep the bike near you. Better safe than sorry, but it's also not too risky to just rest your bike nearby. Most patrons live nearby and are economically stable, so theft isnt as big a worry as some New Castle parks.
On that note, the area seems to run mildy conservative to generally progressive. So I think the area is fairly safe for LGBT+ people, although certain neighbors/community members could be a bother. I feel very safe at the park as a...
