This is a wonderful place to picnic for the day or stargaze at night. It's not considered true dark, but it's got so little light pollution that you will have no problem seeing every star in the sky, visible planets, and the milky way on a dark night before moonrise or on a new moon. I went to watch the Perseids Meteor Shower here and had a fantastic time. It's calm, quiet, filled with wildlife (it's a bird refuge), and most areas are far enough from the road that you don't hear or see traffic. I will always drive here from Vegas to view...
Read moreCame here for a night of camping and fishing in the morning. Camping was AWESOME, so fun, totally free, 15 designated spots and when we came on a Saturday night in July there was only one other party so we had our choice of spaces. The fishing, on the other hand wasn't so great. The areas near the lake where you can fish are very weedy and we kept getting line caught. My hubby did catch a nice carp, but this was after much frustration with cutting the lines we lost. Would definitely come to camp again...
