Went to the Harrison-Crawford State Forest to do the “Adventure Hiking Trail” with my brother-in-law. (Look for Obannon Woods and AHT) Beautiful park, and a great 25 mile trail. They have several overnight shelters throughout the trail, but you can also tent camp. Very rugged trail *Be advised - the summer and autumn months can be very dry and most of the creek beds are extremely porous so finding water can be a challenge. Many people drop off water in advance along the trail. We did not. I went in with 4 liters thinking I would have enough to get me to the campsite water 18 miles in. It was not. I was conservative with my water usage (which I don’t recommend) and I still wound up hiking 2.5 miles without water. So...plan ahead....

Very peaceful, easy hiking, not crowded, great rock outcroppings and pretty views! A perfect destination for motorcyclists. Just a few moments away from the old historic town of Leavenworth with a country store right out of the movies. Crawford county is an undiscovered jewel of a location. Wide open spaces, amazing river views, indian artifacts (if you're lucky) and even affordable real estate! Visit this forest, i go whenever I'm in town for a major de-stressing (and also visit the...

The amount of logging being done in our state forests is disgusting. HCSF was once Indiana's best state forest. Now, it looks like a bomb has gone off surrounding O'Bannon Woods. A simple visit is interrupted by the hoardes of logging trucks speeding through the area and the smell of diesel fumes. The DNR funding themselves through logging should be a criminal act. The taxpayers of Indiana own the forest, not the IDNR. The piddly amount of money that the logging is bringing in...

Great place to enjoy nature! This forest has a lot to offer with camping, hiking, horseback riding and more. Check with on of the friendly park rangers when you visit to make sure the area you're going to is open. They will close off sections, including the 20 mile adventure trail, for logging. The forest buts up to the Ohio river so there's great views and water activity as well.
