A great backyard playground for the Doylestown area which is very open with scenic surroundings. Great 6 mile walking/running asphalt trail around the lake with a little on a small part of the road with very little traffic. Some repair of the asphalt needs to be done on the surrounding trial but is not hazardous. It is an important training area for local high school cross country teams.
A great place to have a picnic. Picinic tables and grills are available. There are sheltered overhangs for parties (order in advance as their availability is in high demand). There are playground areas for toddlers. There are some fishing docks at various locations around the park. Restrooms for seasonal use and ample parking in various lots around the lake. Also, dogs are allowed but must be on the appropriate leash law length. Just clean up after them. Plenty of garbage cans are available.
Boat launches on either side of the lake for boats (small engine outdoors at best, not sure, check before hand) and fishing with a county permit all day. Kyakas can be stored on the the banks of the lake for a fee and a county permit is needed to paddle. No swimming is allowed.
Good for bird watching and a local nature center at the far end opposite the main dam. Also, trails at that end.
Downside, I am all for biking, but why must cyclists ride their road bikes on the lake's main pathways? There are plenty of roads in the surrounding area and around Upper Bucks to ride. Mountain bikes are less of a problem as the cyclists on these do not go as fast. However, neither seem to be prohibited. Just be aware for your safety. Park Rangers patrol the area and lake.
