Nepaug Reservoir — Attraction in New Hartford

Nice place for a quick walk. About 1 mile walk from the parking area on Rt 202 to the parking area at the end of Torrington Ave in Collinsville. About half way is the dam with an awesome view of the reservoir and spillway.

Clean, beautiful sunset views and wildlife. I've seen ducks, geese, hawks, eagles, rabbits, bear and once I even spotted a young moose checking out the water.

The walkway is a well paved dam access road that is closed to general vehicle traffic. They keep the roadway maintained and cleared - even in the winter.

Excellent place for leisure biking all year round, even during winter as it is plowed asap. Just remember to wear a helmet. The only drawback is that there are many dog owners, and there are plenty of them, who do not pick up their 🐕 poop at all, or leave the plastic bags with the poop on the site of the road, or let the 🐕 run without the leash disregarding many posted signs requiring to do that. My pup and I walked this when there was still snow on the ground. I was very impressed by how clean and plowed they keep the walkway. I couldn't find the parking area on Google maps and directions. I didn't realize that one lot is on Route 202 and if you reached Canton, CT Town line, you've missed the parking area and had to turn around.
