Reelfoot Lake — Attraction in New Madrid

Reelfoot Lake was formed in the winter of 1811–1812 when a series of violent earthquakes struck the New Madrid Seismic Zone along the central Mississippi River Valley. The quakes were so intense that they caused the ground to subside dramatically here in these parts of northwestern Tennessee, creating sunken areas that filled rapidly with water from the Mississippi River and nearby streams.
