So continues the adventures of Mutt and Sidekick. We all came out for the weekend with one of the grandsons to enjoy some away time. This area managed to avoid the brunt of the recent fires that devastated this area. There is considerable work in progress here though. It appears the sites are getting upgrades to include new ramps, painting of the shelters, leveling of the sites, and an overhaul of the entire campground. There is currently no fires allowed or charcoal, propane grills are still good though. The rangers are pretty thorough about all of the rules being enforced for everyone who stays here, even when you’re the only ones currently at the site. It’s actually a good thing though, that means when this area is really busy you won’t have to worry about those that seem to be above the rules. The sites are all pretty much back in sites. Most will have decent shade in the summer with plenty of separation between. The showers and restrooms are all very clean, and well taken care of. The showers though were rather chilly, I would have to say water temp about 100 degrees and the restrooms themselves seemed to be maintained at about 65. Not a pleasant relaxing shower, but you can at least wash the trail dirt off. There are two marked trails in the park and both are pretty easy hikes, the longer one is about 1.5 miles. we took the grandson fishing and despite the claims, there were no fish we could find in the river. I imagine that when it gets closer to the busy season stocking will become more evident and the kids can catch some stockers. For a small park and campground this is a great area with fantastic views and dead quiet at night. We really enjoyed this one and have marked it as comeback spot for us.

Dates of stay: 18-20 July 19. Well-maintained park. The crew seems to be very engaged on the upkeep. Camp hosts were nice. Very clean vault toilets. Large grassy overflow area available if all spots are filled. Stayed in the Encino Loop (E3). Park map shows 6 spots in Encino Loop, only 5 currently available (maybe they plan to put in a 6th). 2 of the 5 (E4 and E5) are tent spots only. E4 has two picnic tables and two fire pits,so good for large tent groups. The road up to the loop is not too bad, but the road will get very muddy during a good rain. The Creek seemed low...only a few spots with 2 feet of water. Just seemed odd to fish for fish that you can easily see swimming around. People were fishing and catching, but the fishing didn't really excite me. Creek was great for kids to play in. Good cell phone service (Verizon).

Has a bit of a golf course vibe Only 6 FCFS sites and none of them have shade trees or shelters. So I highly recommend getting a reservation. Be sure to print it or at least photograph your confirmation. You can also reserve it on-site entire park is very very clean (even the fire pits!) and well taken care of. Has water, electricity, vault toilets, and flush toilets & shower in main building where ranger has an office The creek now in Sept after a lot of rain seems mostly overgrown with brush. except at crossings no campsites on the creek itself. Great trail up the east mountain side and across through pines and aspens back down to the creek and campground. No map or distance stated on trail, but it took me about 1 hr hiking, pausing, and strolling to cover the entire loop. Dog friendly if kept on leash.

Camped here for two nights over a holiday weekend hoping to avoid the crowds and unplug for a bit. I hadn’t heard much about Coyote Creek and so didn’t have much in the way of expectations going in. The whole family was really impressed. They have been doing a lot of work to create new camp sites, one of which we stayed in. The sites are roomy and you don’t feel like you are camping on top of the folks in the site next to you. The restroom facilities are honestly the cleanest and best maintained I’ve seen in any state or private camping area. I’m pretty sure they were being pressure washed twice per day while we were there. The campsite hosts, park staff and law enforcement were all relaxed, friendly, and super helpful. The valley that the park is situated in was more wooded than we thought it would be based on pictures we had seen. The bottom of the valley has the creek running through it complete with beaver dams and open meadows. A little higher up you get into mature pine forrest with plenty of shade and places to hang a hammock. We will be returning to this jem of a campground again for sure. The only “complaints” I can think of are that the fishing wasn’t great (but fun anyhow) and there were a few loud radios, but they went silent right when quiet hours kicked in. So, don’t everyone start booking the place solid because I want to be able to get a reservation...

The park was absolutely wonderful not too expensive for the campsites they have nice and prove sites with campfire Rings they have a couple sites with electrical hookups and water but they're a little closer to the main complex they have a group area they have showers toilets sinks the whole nine yards the place is spread out over a good distance Coyote Creek runs right through the middle of the campground there's overflow camping if needed and up around the back there is What's called the Encino Loop and there's a little more rustic style camping but still more improved than just hiking Into the Woods there's a nice size playground for the kids and it's about equal distances to go back to Mora versus going to Angel Fire And if you don't feel like going that far there's a nice little kind of like General Store just down the road a little ways heading towards Angel Fire nice little fishing pond up there too absolutely loved it I will be going back oh and there's only 10 or 12 sites out of the 25 or 30 or so that you can reserve on recreation.gov the rest...
