First time fishing at Eagle Rock Lake and I had a very pleasant day. The lake's proximity to Red River and Questa plus direct access from the highway make it a busy little lake. People came and went throughout the day but we never felt crowded. The fishing was quite good and it appeared people all around the lake were catching. We used at least 13 different baits plus two lures and two flies. We had action on everything. We didn't catch any trout over 10" but saw two gents who each caught 17" rainbows.
With all the traffic in and out I was amazed by how clean the entire area was. Trash was in bins and even the Bud Light man was doing his part by not leaving his empty beer cans all over the place. Most of the visitors were small family groups with dad showing the kids how to fish.
I decided to fish the river which runs just to the south of the lake. I fished three long holes just below the bridge and caught seven rainbows in about 40 minutes. All of them were 10" or less and released back into the river. There were heavy rains upstream from us and the river went from being clear to a rich caramel color in about five minutes. I switched gears and went back to fishing the lake.
I usually have a preference for fishing in more secluded areas but I was happy and comfy all day long at Eagle Rock Lake. I'm sure I'll make it back...

It’s not the fishing that’s bad, although all there is tiny stocked rainbow in here, it’s the people that come here.
