What is very upsetting about Elephant Butte Reservoir is they cannot keep it filled with water, so much of it has to go down south to Texas and if we don't get much snow then it never recuperates. It is sad to see it in the shape that it is right now. I have spent many of times down there fishing water skiing having a good old time but I have never seen the water this low the sad thing is it's been lower than this. Something needs to be done so that Elephant Butte Reservoir does not get as low as it's been getting. I don't know all the legal mumbo jumbo but there's got to be something that can be done. A good start would be raising the percentage of what the lake will be let go down to before we divert water to it so that it will not hit these low levels. I don't know what's all involved but if there's something I come up...

I guess what locals call the lake is actually a reservoir. Makes sense as this is not a natural lake, but is human engineered.

There's lots of places to camp all around the reservoir/lake. People go out there to look at birds too. Of course, if you like boating and/or swimming, this is the place. People have a lot of fun out here.

If you're visiting the area, be sure to at least take a look at Elephant Butte Lake...oopps...I...

I went here on Memorial Day and stayed the night. Took the bikes out on the water and didn’t have to worry about other people on boats because there was only about 20 or so boats on the water. Weather was great water was perfect. Restrooms were clean. Be careful if driving on the beach. Lots of vehicles got stuck including me. Had to deflate the tires then we...

We love fishing on and off our Kayaks here. We have caught striped bass, small and large mouth bass, and a couple different types of cat fish. We caught and released 11 striped bass today! I usually pick up trash everywhere I go, but it was super clean! The port a potty was clean too! Fall is a great time to camp and fish at Elephant Butte. Enjoy your visit!

We went to the wrong side on accident , But once we made it to the beach, It was very beautiful and the water was clean. It was extremely cold water though so we couldn’t swim for very long when we went. We went in April, so I can’t say if the water gets warmer during summer or not.

We visited t or c for 2 nights and went suping 3 times. There was space for us to park within 50ft of the water, next to 10 rvs. Great beach to swim and launch. Still a gigantic lake for a paddle boarder. Friendly people doing different types of activities.
