The National Scouting Museum is a first class museum that tells the history of the Boy Scouts. It has many displays which are organized in a way that tells stories. There is a library. There is a large meeting room. There is a gift shop. There is a storage area for day packs.

The staff is super friendly, very engaging and helpful.

The displays tell stories about scouting that are often new, always interesting and sometimes humorous.

They have a program for scouts to earn part of the Scouting Heritage merit badge.

Overall, if you are hiking in Philmont, this is a great side trip for a few hours while you are...

If you are a fan of scouting history this is the premier destination. So many exhibits sharing the rich history of scouting. I greatly enjoyed the uniforms throughout history. The staff was amazing and happy to answer all my questions. If they didn't have the answer readily available they were quick to hand me off to someone who did. The facility is very modern and well laid out. The gift shop has a wide variety of items at decent prices. For scouts working on scouting heritage MB the visit can fulfill one of the requirements. This was a very fun stop and I will visit again if...

The National Scouting Museum is is well worth a visit if you are doing a Philmont trek or even if you just happen to be passing through Cimarron, NM. Our timeline didn't allow for it, but I could have spent 2-3 hrs here reading all of the exhibits. I especially liked seeing the very first Eagle Scout award and how the camping equipment has evolved over the years. They have a Scouting Heritage Merit badge available to earn there as well. Our group didn't have time to do it, but that might be a nice thing to do to remember your trip by. ...

Had a great morning visiting and talking with the docents of the museum. Super knowledgeable and friendly. Most are retired BSA and have experiences at Philmont. There is alot of BSA history, but The museum isn't just BSA, there is a hugh collection of historical objects from the Area. I have included some photos, but you should visit and check it out yourself. It's a great stop with lots to see.

Though I've been coming to this area for almost 50 years, I have never explored the National Scouting Museum outside Cimarron, NM. I truly did not know the history of the Boy Scouts of America, now called BSA. I only spent an hour and could have spent more time there. I would highly recommend spending time there, especially if you are looking for something FREE to do. Donations are accepted.
