The Pecos National Historical Park Visitor Center serves as an excellent starting point for any visit to the park. The knowledgeable and friendly staff are always available to offer insights, answer questions, and provide guidance to enhance the visitor experience.
The center houses a small but well-curated museum that focuses on the rich and complex history of the Pecos Pueblo. Through exhibits and displays, visitors can learn about the lives of the people who once inhabited this area, their culture, traditions, and the challenges they faced. This historical context is invaluable in understanding the significance of the ruins and the surrounding landscape.
By providing this foundational knowledge, the museum prepares visitors to embark on the walking tour trail that leads through the Pecos Pueblo ruins. With a deeper appreciation for the site's history, visitors can explore the remnants of the pueblo and imagine the vibrant community that once thrived there. One bit of advice take Exit 307 to Rowe, NM since the Pecos National Historical Park and Visitor Center is closer to Rowe than it is...
Read moreDefinitely worth the stop! Incredibly informative and well built. Beautiful winding trail. Dog friendly! (So rare to find a National Park where your dogs can join!). No entrance fee, BUT MAKE SURE TO BUY THE $2 GUIDE BOOK. The sights are all numbered, but we didn’t realize until too far in that you needed to purchase a guide book to explain the sights. There are some signs, to explain some things, but the guide book would have been more informative. Thankfully we had walked through the entire museum (highly recommended for history buffs!) so we had some idea what some of the sights were. The park is incredibly well maintained. Wonderful for people looking for historical information or just for a nice walk. When you walk in through the gift shop there’s only a small display of the guide books at the checkout counter. They should put up a larger sign or display, as I’m sure most people would gladly buy it! Defiantly make the stop if...
Read moreMy wife and I visited the Pecos National Historical Park on a weekday in the early afternoon and had a lot of the place to ourselves. We drive a small renovated school bus (about the size of a Class B RV) and there was plenty of sufficient parking! The park itself was well preserved, well labeled with concise information, and well kept of debris or trash. The gift shop had a ton of cool items that were reasonably priced. The museum portion was really cool and easy to follow along. Staff was super helpful and friendly. The bathrooms were clean and there was picnic areas for small families to hangout. My only knock would be that the theater video was a little outdated and not exciting. But the park was free and our overall experience was excellent so I cannot complain! I would highly recommend making this park a stop if you are...
