Quemado lake is a beautiful small lake in New Mexico. The fishing is pretty good from what I've heard and the lake is stocked often. The lake at one time had a goldfish problem that seems to have been partially resolved. The main catch seems to be rainbow trout. The lake only allows boats that are using electric motors and paddles. There are multiple campgrounds nearby, but I haven't had the pleasure of staying at any of them. The campgrounds seem to be also very well maintained and I saw multiple toilets available for each campsite. at the time I was there, the campgrounds did not seem to be full and there was plenty of space available. The lake itself is between Reserve and the town Quemado. There is a small store on the way to the lake from Reserve that has some fishing supplies and also supplies for making lunch or dinner. if you were leaving from the town of Quemado there is a small, clean general store to pick up supplies The road to the lake is well maintained and around the lake the dirt roads also seem to in good shape. A real hidden gem in New Mexico that I want to visit more often.

First time being here to camp and fish and the area is very nice ! This lake site is high up in the mountains at a elevation if 7,860 feet up so if you have a hard time breathing this might not be the place to visit. They stock the lake with many different species of fish,we actually caught a gold fish from this lake. We got some good sized trout here also. The place was clean and well maintained. Lots of Elk deer in the area so drive slowly at night time or you could hit one and rune your vehicle and get hurt possibly. No gas motors is allowed on your boat here, electric only. Many great campgrounds around the lake with clean running water and bathrooms with lights

We stayed a night at the Piñon Campground at Quemado Lake in the Gila National Forest. We checked out the other campgrounds around the lake but chose Piñon because of the beautiful setting atop the mountain. We were the only campers there, except for the camp host, and had a pleasant and relaxing stay among the piñon and juniper trees.

Even though it was about 15 years ago I had the best experience I ever had. My husband took me camping for a week in September. Yes, it rained almost every day but we had breaks in the weather and it was not too cold during the day. The lake was full of goldfish which made it difficult to fish but it was quiet and relaxing. What made this camping trip special was as we were walking to the lake one morning, I heard a sound of wings and looked to my left and was eye to eye with a golden eagle! My husband thought I was going to get carried away. I wish I'd had a camera or cellphone. I counted 4 nesting pairs, feasting on those goldfish. It was the most amazing sight I've ever experienced. Can't...
