This is going to be a long one.
GREAT find on I-40 E on our way from California to North Carolina. This place genuinely and truly has the trucker in mind and it shows.
First - there was plenty of parking, even in the wee hours of the morning.
Second - their restrooms are very clean.
Third - they don’t just have your typical “convenience store” selection. They actually have groceries. When driving a truck, it is sometimes difficult to navigate getting in and out of places like Walmart. And let’s face it, sometimes Walmart is just out of the way. And for drivers that like to buy a few groceries and actually cook meals, truck stops have very limited options and everything is typically three prices. This cool little stop has a decent selection of actual groceries and they are reasonably priced.
Fourth - Russell’s Cafe - the food was soooooooo good. I got a crispy beef taco and a cheese enchilada. Both were delicious. My husband got the all you can eat catfish and it was incredible!
Fifth - THE SHOWERS. As a woman, I really appreciate showers that are actually CLEAN. And not a man’s version of clean. 😂🙈 When the tile grout is clean and the drains aren’t gunky, the vents aren’t caked in dust and the toilet bowl (inside and out) looks like it sees a scrub brush every day - then that is what I consider CLEAN. I don’t mind paying for a shower but if I’m going to pay for it instead of use points or credits, then I want my shower to be clean. Russell’s did NOT disappoint. And their towels are big and fluffy - like you would have at home - and they smelled good! The shower heads are the great big rainfall shower heads and they have plenty of pressure!
Sixth - fresh popcorn. Enough said!
Seventh - we didn’t go, but they have a cool car museum and overall the place just has a really neat vibe. There are few independently owned truck stops left and you just never know what you’re going to get when you find one. Russell’s is a true gem and we will definitely be adding this to our “list” of good places to stop, to eat and to shower.
Eighth - Everyone from the people working the counters to the employees in the restaurant are super friendly. Any person leaving a bad review of this truck stop is probably the kind of person that would find $100 on the ground and be mad that they didn’t find more.
I definitely recommend...
Read morePLEASE DON'T MISS THIS PLACE!! OMG😮😮 This is absolutely one of my favorite stops when driving across the country on the old Route 66. This is my 16th time driving across the country and I make a point to stop here every time I am near the area. What is amazing about Russell's Truck & Travel center is that it is definitely a site that you MUST NOT MISS. I stumbled upon this place by accident because I had to stop for gas. They have a FREE car museum that is unbelievable to say the least. They have AMAZING various CLASSIC cars that have been fully restored and on display. They have memorabilia from Photos to particular soda machines to gasoline pumps. The museum is quite large. ( you wouldn't think this would even exist by looking at the building from the outside)
You can at least spend 30 to 40 minutes inside looking at everything.
All ages, and generations will really appreciate this museum!! What's unique is that this place is quite large in general and it is in the middle of nowhere..
Russells Truck & Travel center also has a diner. It is your mom and pop diner that you will not find anywhere else. Honestly I ordered a ribeye steak and it was absolutely delicious, and it was cooked to perfection. Honestly, this is an experience I'm sharing with you. I hope you read my review and perhaps stop and see this awesome place. I'm hoping it will be a start of a tradition for you, as it has been with me this past 7 years.. if you're near this place. PLEASE... just take 10 to 15 minutes and stop here.. I promise you! It's awesome!

Read moreTruck stops of America has bought out Russell's truck and travel center. The store manager and her assistant were very rude, condescending and just plain mean. It might have had to do something with the changeover from one business to another. I purchased a plain sausage and biscuit. I was charged almost 5 dollars for it. As I was leaving I noticed larger biscuits that had egg sausage and cheese were only 350. I went back to the counter and said that they could take the sausage and biscuit back and I would purchase this larger sausage and biscuit with egg and cheese for less. And I was told once you buy it it's yours they can't return it. I mentioned that I just purchased it she put it in the bag and I hadn't left the store I asked to speak to the manager. The lady went over to the manager and they had a little pow wow and then came over and right away the manager says I can't return it. And I said listen I just purchased it she said Will you heated it up. I said no it came hot already. So she grudgingly refund my five something with tax and charged me less than four for the bigger sandwich but she wasn't happy about it and the other lady her assistant I assume kept giving me dirty looks and she had lied to me about dates and timestamps told me that the date stamp was a timestamp. Upon leaving I asked a different worker about it and she verified that yes the date stamp was in fact a date stamp not a timestamp. So I was lied to you as well. I hope they both get retrained and better trained. Maybe get some customer...
