If you have not been here you should go. 1st Vietnam war memorial ever built. It helped inspire the Vietnam memorial in DC. Built by a couple that lost their son is 1968 in Vietnam.

The memorial was begun by Victor and Jeanne Westphall, the grief-stricken parents of MarineFirst Lieutenant David Westphall, who was among sixteen young men in his unit killed in an ambush on May 22, 1968 in Vietnam. The Westphalls used their son's insurance policies to begin construction of the Peace and Brotherhood Chapel, with support from the Disabled American Veterans. The chapel resembles a sail and perches on the hillside overlooking the Moreno Valley. The chapel is open twenty-four hours per day. The David Westphall Veterans Foundation has since supported the operation of the memorial, which was dedicated on the anniversary of David's death in 1971. At the time of its construction, the site received national media attention and helped inspire the establishment of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., completed in 1982. In 1987, the United States Congress recognized the Disabled American Veterans Vietnam Veterans National Memorial as "a memorial of national...

The Vietnam War was the most divisive war in the history of the United States. The country was split, especially the youth, and the men and women who fought in Vietnam were misunderstood, often derided for their sacrifice and service. The War was also defined by class, as the wealthier classes were spared the fighting. As college students, we kids took to the streets, protesting the Vietnam War without acknowledging the sacrifice of our armed forces. Our contemporaries, who didn't have our money or privilege, were dying and losing their youth far away in Southeast Asia. These soldiers didn't start the war, but in our youth and ignorance, we gave them equal blame for what we thought was an unjust war. It was wrong, and I feel guilty. The Memorial in Angel Fire honors the men and women who sacrificed their lives in Vietnam. It is a beautiful, spiritual and majestic place, and evoked many emotions. I stood at this elevated monument and apologized for not understanding. May these men and women...

Angel Fire Vietnam Vet Memorial simply unique and outstanding experience. Been there three times and last in 2021. Site has been much improved since first there in 1994. I’d love to get on the road to Angel Fire in the morning. Many obstacles to overcome. First time wife and I were there there was snow on the ground/roads from Las Vegas, NM. We listened to Enya, on of her first CD releases. It was a surreal drive. Loved every minute on that terrible road up the hill. Served US Army 1965-66 / 67-68. Tet in Qui Nhon, 85th Evac. Now I’m 82 YO and lucky to get to my next VA appointment. But I do!! God bless all the Vietnam Veterans and all Veterans who proudly served their respective Service. Pride in being an American. Go to this marvelous Memorial a wonderful man erected to honor his Son who served in Vietnam and like so many of our comrades in arms did not return. God bless this benefactor and his Son. Amen...

Last month, I had the most incredible winter escape in Angel Fire, New Mexico, in partnership with @visitangelfirenm!✨ We started our trip with a winter wonderland sleigh ride with Roadrunner Tours! We bundled up, rode through the snowy forest, and saw some friendly deer! Afterward, we refueled at J & A’s Fun Bakery and Diner with a delicious home-cooked meal. Next up was a day at @angel_fire_resort! They were voted the Best Beginner Terrain in North America – perfect for a beginner like me! In the morning, we started with a ski lesson. Our instructor was great at coaching us through the basics and had us hitting the bunny hill in no time. For lunch, we enjoyed epic tacos from El Jefe, located right by the slopes. Then, we continued the winter fun with tubing! Tubing down the slopes at Angel Fire Resort was an absolute blast! So much laughter, so much speed – pure winter joy! We stayed on the Angel Fire Resort property, so when we were done playing outside, we could easily pop in to change, soak in the indoor hot tub, and refresh. I loved how I could watch skiers zoom down the mountain from the atrium attached to my room. Then, we ended the night with a delicious dinner at the Angel Fire Country Club. The next day, we saddled up for another fun adventure with Roadrunner Tours. This time, it was a group horseback trail ride, and the snowy scenery was spectacular. I was nervous about riding a horse for the first time in years, but the horses were well-trained and knew to follow each other along the trail. Finally, we explored the Vietnam Veterans Memorial before starting our two-hour drive back to Santa Fe. Are you dreaming about a winter getaway? There’s still time to book a trip to Angel Fire, New Mexico, this year, or save this post for planning next year! #VisitAngelFirePartner #AngelFireNM #VisitAngelFire #VisitAngelFireNM #AngelFireNewMexico #WeAreAngelFire #NMTrue #NewMexicoTRUE

This is an unexpected “must see” memorial to Vietnam veterans. We are on a motorcycle tour through Angel Fire and had head about this memorial. We are so glad we stopped. Hours are 9am-4pm. Built as gold star parents (the Westphall’s)) memorial to their son, this is by far one of the best memorials to Vietnam veterans we have ever seen. The museum is full of detailed Vietnam war era memorabilia and an amazing level of history and tributes to those who served (in all branches of service). A library of Vietnam era books, movie theater, chapel and gift shop. It was an honor to go there and see what it truly means for people who write a check in service to their country that includes payment with their lives. What a fitting tribute to a generation of warriors that never got the respect they deserved from a very divided country. This memorial does a heck of a job to try and right that wrong.

Excellent memorial & museum with great memorabilia, history, & great views. The reason I gave this a 4, vice 5, is because it is sadly lacking U.S. Coast Guard representation. There was only one small display of a CG uniform & a CG flag above it on the wall with a note as to who donated it. There is no mention of the CG's involvement in the war, their mission during the wat, the 8000 who served directly in the conflict, the 59 who were wounded, or the 3 that died in the war. There is also no U.S. Coast Guard flag represented when you first drove up - but the other 4 branches that served in the war & even the Space Force flags are all represented. As a retired U.S. Coast Guardsman, I am very disappointed in underrepresentation. Regardless, its worth the stop. Please see my notes about bringing dogs on site.
