Twin house Steamboat Houses (crafted in 1905) šŸ“Located in Lower 9th Ward āš“ļø Capt. Milton Doullut is the man who dreamed them up, with the Mississippi waters running through his veins…so much he built his home as such 🚢 His wife, Mary, was the first woman to earn a riverboat pilot’s license for inland waterways in south Louisiana šŸŽ” The roof is inspired by a Japanese pagoda Doullut saw at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair (#2 is across the street - visibility is limited due to overgrown bushes)

I believe it's an AirBnB/Vrbo rental thing.... people were there. On the back deck.... visiting. No where to park.... not really a public location. Beautiful place... in a residential area. Next to "the levee". It's better to park down by the OLD Holy Cross school a few blocks down (see the pic). Taking it all in!!!😯

Such a great piece of architecture! We even ran into a neighborhood resident and had a great chat about the neighborhood and its evolution since Katrina. Wish I had read more about the house's history before seeing it... but glad I found a few good articles on it online after the visit.

If you are exploring spots in New Orleans off the beaten path, cross the canal and check out these houses in the Holy Cross neighborhood. These are private homes, so you can't tour them, but on a nice day, you can walk along the levee and enjoy the view of the river on one side and the houses on the other. There is a lot of interesting detail on the house and the fence that you won't find on houses built today. Be sure to bring your camera...
