This beach has so much wasted potential and it's frustrating. It's beautiful beach to walk on but it has been overrun with fishermen in which most of them do not care about the state of the beach and it's covered in garbage. Also, because it is overrun with fishermen, it's impossible to enjoy walking on it because you are avoiding their fishing lines and garbage. We.spend half the time looking at the floor to make sure we aren't stepping in something instead of enjoying the really nice view. Fishermen need a designated area near the bay because it is getting out of control and the beach is suffering for it. It also seems like the beach cleaning only does a small section and not very often. I've seen the cleaning machine sitting idle with a worker watching his phone on multiple occasions. It's frustrating to know that this can be an amazing beach for nice walks and to get your feet wet but it's hampered by garbage and fishermen.

Overall, a really nice beach to walk through and fish :D It was really quiet and there weren't too much people. Not too sure about the swimming though because I can't swim 🤷‍♂️ Beachcombing here was okay. There weren't too much things to find, lots of colorful rocks, white shells, and the occcasional dead horseshoe crab, but I still really enjoyed wandering along the shore and the sunset was nice. I spent hours today just scouring around the beach for dead horseshoe crabs with my family to line up.

I absolutely loved visiting Great Kills Park on Staten Island! It’s such a peaceful and beautiful place. I even got to see deer walking around freely, and I met some geese by the water. The lake is stunning, and the sunsets there are truly breathtaking. I watched one in such a romantic atmosphere, and it became an unforgettable experience for me. This park is a hidden gem in New York City — I’ll definitely come back again!

It’s unfortunate however it must be said. This beach is the second most dirtiest beach in NYC (Coney Island being 1st). It is highly questionable b.c this is a federal park using both municipal & federal funding for this land. However the beach has so many variables of garbage, it’s clearly ignored by patrons & staff. If a piece of land could be defucted to be utilized much more properly such as housing, shopping center or even high rise complexes - I would highly agree Great Kills...
