Also known as Chandler Station Railroad Bridge, this is one of only two remaining Condord & Claremont Railway Co covered bridges in the area. There were originally 13 in Newport alone. This current bridge was rebuilt in 1906 by Concord native Jonathan Parker Snow to replace a bridge built on this same spot in 1872 by the Sugar River Railroad. This 217-foot bridge is the longest covered Railroad bridge still standing on Earth, and is also one of only 8 remaining covered railroad bridges in the country, of which New Hampshire has 5. The Sugar River railroad was first incorportated in the 1870s to complete a rail line for the Concord & Claremont Railway from Newport to Claremont. It was a small electric railway for passengers and modest freight between Boston and Maine railroad connections. It was designated Bridge #176 by the Boston & Maine Railroad, and stands largely unaltered from its original appearance. The Pier Bridge is listed in the National Register of HIstoric Places.. Pier Bridge is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. NRHP No. 75000134

This is a really cool long covered bridge. It's easy to drive to and only a short walk from the road. The main road heading to the area is a rough dirt road and has a lot of pot holes. If you are around this place I would say it's worth the stop and worth the short walk across the bridge.

Such a cool bridge located in Newport, New Hampshire, right along Sugar River. While there are not many covered bridges left, this one is even more rare because it was used for trains back in the 1900s. This bridge is tall and mighty but does have some rough spots. The GPS can throw you off a little bit if you aren't familiar with the area. This is also close to the Wright's covered bridge, also used for trains. This bridge is so cool and so worth the visit if you are...
