This was my favorite wave watching spot on a month long trip to Oregon. Five minutes south of Depoe Bay. Thought I was going to be here two minutes and ended up staying four hours, then going back multiple times. Totally awesome rounded rocky cliff viewpoint with large mowed grassy area. Half oval shaped pullout with parking for 50 or so cars. Right off the 101. Restrooms, trash can, and a couple picnic tables by the parking, but three more on clifftop if you follow trail past the bathrooms on the right to the whale spotting deck in the trees (a very magical short walk). Very wide view of ocean in all directions from the point, plus a solitary bench with wave viewing so awesome that it's like its own amusement park ride. Huge, amazing, dramatic surf against cliff rocks at high tide and whales right offshore at times. Seals on rocks and in surf. Plenty of space for social distancing and your own spot for viewing. No beach or direct ocean access.

Here, at the embrace of Highway 101 and Otter Crest Loop Road, where the road forks like choices in a man's life, lies Rodea Point. A place less traveled, yet deeply profound. It's here, amidst the gravel and the whispers of the Pacific, that you witness nature's grand opera. These basalt cliffs, stoic and ancient, bear the brunt of the ocean's passion. Waves, like thoughts, rise high above, sometimes 20 feet into the air, in a dance of raw power and beauty, before crashing down in a crescendo of sound and spray. It's in this tumult, this fierce display of nature's might and majesty, that one finds a reflection of life itself – powerful, unpredictable, yet inherently beautiful. In the heart of winter and spring, this spectacle unfolds, reminding us that even in the most turbulent of times, there is a rhythm, a purpose, and above all, a profound beauty in...

My favorite stop on the coast. In the grassy area near the parking there are a few benches. Every time I have stopped here I have seen several whales. Today (September) there were at least seven whales, including 2 young onesβ€”their tails are so much smaller. I watched them for about 3 hours. Restrooms are clean. Take a peaceful walk through the woods for the best views of a tiny boiling bay and whale cove. Several secluded picnic tables and benches with excellent views. From the viewing deck over whale cove, look east to the sand bar at low tide to see a baby seal daycare. I counted at least 15 babies! Be amazed at the plants clinging to the rocks in spite of the waves in the little bay. Let your imagination dream up stories of pirates and bootleggers as you view the caves in the cliffs. Be sure to take...

Great view but I got harassed by the park ranger. I wish I would of caught his name. I was eating my breakfast in the back of my van and he pounded on the window so hard I thought it might break. I asked him what he wanted and he told me that I couldn't park there overnight. It was 8:30 a.m. I didn't stay there overnight. In fact I don't even get off work until 6:00 a.m. and I work on the other side of Newport. He said that it's not a rest area although there is public restrooms and plenty of parking. I was the only one there. It ruined my morning and I didn't get to check out my new camera. Next day I returned and got this picture.
