Amazingly beautiful especially the parts with an ocean view and the yachats river road view. A few pullouts off the road and some fairly level paved pullouts for car camping. Very quiet up there off nfs 55 and not too bad of roads for non 4wd people but the gravel parts can get rough and of course are rough on tires. They need to improve the step ups and step downs where the paved meets the gravel though, if you don't have a higher clearance vehicle it is pretty big jump for your car. I was thinking the rangers need to do a better job of clearing the major road debris though such as large branches and trunks and slides. I had to do it myself more than once, how hard is it for a ranger in a big 4wd to stop a couple times and move some of this stuff and once in a while do some of the bigger stuff that's been there a while? The Tenmile Creek road near stonefield beach bridge needs some serious attention for debris once you get past the residences about 7 miles in. Be careful for bears too. But it's a great Natl Forest for car camping here and there and secluded exploring/hiking. The yachats river road to keller creek to nfs 55 then either into cape perpetua or loop around to tenmile creek is a nice run, can even get some 4g in places. The nature of the road cut means you won't really encounter much ground wildlife, too steep which is kind of a relief if you're pullout car camping. Heard some amazing owl hooting along nfs 55 one night, creepy though. Totally silent at night if clear weather and not by one of those bend creeks. Weird mosquitoes that don't seem to bite at least in feb lol. Canal Campground near waldport is closed in the off season whatever that is and from what I read is group camping at xxx$ per night only now, terrible. Great little drive by the Alsea though until you get to canal creek then the road gets non-paved to where you have to have an all wheel/higher clearance car to continue. Gets...
Read moreFor straight up beauty, this forest gets a 1000%. Gorgeous, not many mosquitoes compared to other areas of Oregon. Creek upon creek of wildlife, neat birds, random mules, hiking trails all over. The ocean is right there. Downsides to going here are how full the campsites are and how few non-residential roads that you can find wild areas to camp at there are. We almost couldn't find a place before dark. The other downside is it has been completely turned over by people hunting for cool rocks. This area is supposed to have a lot of geodes that are family friendly to find. We searched for days hoping to find just one in all the areas they are supposed to be, and not one. Our kiddo was finally excited about something and we drove hours hoping to find him one to keep him excited. Despite that let down, we still ended up with a super incredible place to stick a tent up, a wonderful wildlife area surrounding us and great temperatures. It was really a...
