Comprehensive review: I affectionately call this the dog walker's park. Come Saturday or Sunday and show off your canine friend. And if you're thinking of getting a dog, this is a great place to see lots of different breeds and talk to their owners. The Boat House Picnic Area is the main area of this park. Here you'll see water spill over the Weir Dam. While there is no swimming, people love to wade themselves and their dogs in the Neshaminy Creek. You can launch your small watercraft at a public launch above the dam or rent one at the concession stand. There's lots of picnic tables in this area and a playfield behind the parking lot. Bicycle on any of the paved roads in the park. There are numerous trails in the park, many with their own parking areas. The Covered Bridge Lot in the northeast section of the park is the shortest trail to access the covered bridge. It is also a starting point for horseback riding and includes steps to mount a horse. There are four approved horseback trails in Tyler State Park. If you enter the park from Twining Ford Road, you'll be on Betz Hill Trail once you enter the park. This is a popular walk for the many locals who live nearby. Part way down the road, you can veer off onto the White Pine Trail. The private White Pine horse farm is located here. Another park entrance for horse riding is at the Tyler Park Center for the Arts. The Arts Center has a building for programs and a field featuring outdoor sculptures. Access the Number 1 Lane trail here. Driving east, you'll come to the Fisherman's Parking lot. Access the creek, the Stable Mill Trail, or start your horse ride from here. On the other side of the Neshaminy Creek is the Mill Dam lot. Follow the handicapped accessible Tyler Drive Trail to the dam. Further up Main Park Road is the Lower Plantation lot. It's a nice spot with a ballfield to picnic and start the Quarry Trail. The Upper Plantation has the only reservable pavilion in the park. Of special interest here is one of the top ranked disc golf courses in the country maintained by the Bucks County Disc Golf Alliance. The Alliance offers tournaments, clinics and leagues. The park office is on the Swamp Park Road entrance which meet the Main Park Road. Further up is the Hickory Nut picnic area which is usually only for groups who reserve it. There is a volleyball field here. Next on this road is the Boardwalk and Maze areas with picnic tables and a playfield in between. Back at the Boat House Area, you can find your way onto several hiking trails. I hiked the Neshaminy Creek Trail with friends up to the covered bridge. I found sections very muddy and a scattering of horse dropping throughout. You can do the Mill Dairy trail instead. For more information: pa parks and forest see my you tube video at:...
Read moreA few years back this park would not be a 5, but a 10 star. It was quiet, peaceful, serene. Even on the most crowded weekend in the summer you could come and enjoy it without any complications.
But now? Beyond awful. The same families go there every weekend and blast music. I don't mean at a reasonable level, genuinely to the point of wondering if it's some type of joke. People swimming in the water. Trails are now over grown with weeds (Though I understand the short staffing issue).
The park rangers are tremendous, it's just that there's not enough of them. To put it simply - We all recognize a certain influx of out of state visitors that have essentially ruined the tranquility of the park for long time residents here.
One thing that made me laugh was the clueless poster below that gave it a one star because him and his friends could not drink at the park.... Unbeknownst to him - the rest of the poor reviews are due to people LIKE HIM! That come every day, put music on at full blast, litter, public intoxication, and are so selfish that they cannot seem to understand the impact they are have on others that want to enjoy Tyler State Park as well. He continues to joke about how the area is more suited for "Meditation and praying". The nerve! What kind of FREAKS would go to a gorgeous, scenic area like this and want a quiet, relaxing time? Weird, right?!
They need more park rangers. They need to take Tyler Park back and restore its once wonderful reputation. It is inhabited by clueless trash now. So sad!
Lastly, there is another park around the corner that is what Tyler once used to be. It doesn't matter how crowded it is, you can sit by the lake and hear the water and ambient sounds of nature in the background uninterrupted. I will refrain from saying the name because I can already picture the caravan of thousands pulling into the parking lot destroying, yet again, another PA tax...
Read moreTyler State is a gorgeous park & a large park with multiple places to spend your recreational time. There are incredible, beautiful birds I haven’t seen anywhere else in PA. You can rent different boats & all sorts of activities are available throughout the park. My Warning would be, when I was visiting last fall, a park ranger approached our group who had brought their puppy. They were walking with her on the edge of the water. The park ranger informed us that it’s against the park rules to swim in their water due to toxic chemicals that were found as run off from a Military Base that was nearby (in the 70’s I believe). She said there have been people rushed to the hospital & suffered alarming medical conditions that could cause everything from cancer to brain inflammation. I was completely caught off guard! Every time I’ve been to Tyler State there are dozens of people swimming & allowing their children to swim for hours! If the water is toxic/polluted, why are there not massive warning signs posted all over!? Why hasn’t it been cleaned out? Isn’t that the point of our tax dollars & having access to natural park settings? Why hasn’t the EPA gotten involved? Isn’t that what they are for? I’m honestly asking, I am not being sarcastic! This is alarming that I’ve never known this prior to that day. I’m not someone who swims in random places but thinking of all the people that do & their family/friends being exposed to whatever these toxic chemicals are, worries me for them & the animals! There is confirmation & detail about this on Google going into what the toxins are & effects it has on humans/animals. Please do your own research & stay safe! Keep your friends/family/animals safe & let others that u know go here to swim or allow their animals to drink/swim...
