Just a short drive from downtown Hastings, this park is open and spread out with views of prairie flowers, wildlife and glistening views of the surrounding lake. This deceptively small park is spread out in the middle of a farm field giving you an impression of larger area in a realitively small park. A mostly natural Prarie park that hasn't been overly crowded by visitors. Having all amenities of running water, modern bathrooms, and seperate picnic areas. It's a nice place to bring a picnic lunch, enjoy the fresh air, walk the paths, or do a short wave radio day. One wedding and two short wave radio days later in this park, I can definately say to give this park a chance.

Spring lake park reserve, just south of Hastings, is a great park for hiking, biking, nature viewing, archery practice, and even Bison viewing. The park is always well maintained with great facilities and trails. They have a herd of Bison here at the park reserve, but they have plenty of room to roam, so seeing them isn't always a given. Check their website for which area they are in on a particular day to increase your chances. They have a great archery facility with some targets in the woods and also platforms to stand on to practice from different elevation angles.

A beautiful place to visit! Miles of trails for walking, hiking, and biking. Not a ton of great views of Spring Lake, but there are a few overhangs that show you the true beauty of the place. There's also a playground and sand volleyball courts. There's plenty of tables, barbeque grills, and picnic pavilions in and around the visitor center. (The visit center building itself is currently closed during...
