Wish there was a way to know there might be a lamppost on your campsite when you reserve online. Maybe there was a picture of it when I reserved, but I didn't notice. First time camper mistake, I guess. Reserving online was simple, even though we checked in after 5, no issues. Park reps came by on a golf cart and verified or reservation. During business hours, they do a good job of monitoring and maintaining the park. I enjoyed our stay this time, notwithstanding the drunk guy that was still chopping wood at 1am in the most exaggerated, loudest way possible. The sunsets and rises made the sleepless night worth it. Not much more than twigs on the ground in this area, if you're wanting to make a fire, bringing firewood is necessary. We were not prepared for this, I went by what I knew as a kid gathering wood when camping, not possible at this site. Also, I'm guessing the reputation Thunderbird has as dirty Bird comes from when lake levels are low because the water is clear and sparkling. You can see the red clay bottom through the water in places. The best campsite restroom I've ever been in, although toilet paper did run out overnight. We will be back, exploring the other camping areas at the lake.

Went out to our favorite spot out at Thunderbird today 7-22-19 & there was SO MUCH trash on the beach area & grass area. We were there only ones swimming this evening so we had the swim area to ourselves. So we noticed the trash so we started picking it up & making a pile because we didn't have any bags with us too place the trash. We found tons of beer cans, pop cans, water bottles, shirts, shoes, goggles, lots of lids, pieces of candy wrappers, lots of plastic bags, dirty diapers, even found a snorkel and barbecue tongs. It makes you really sad to think that people just leave stuff out everywhere like that when there is lots of wildlife that use this area as well. We were worried about the birds eating the trash and getting sick and dying so we picked it up. Next time you're at the lake don't be lazy and pick up your trash. If two 8 year olds and a 4 year-old can figure it out I'm sure everyone else can to. Do your part. We also picked up all the life jackets that were just left everywhere to float off. Those are there for people to use as safety devices that are free for people to use you would think the least they could do is hang them back up when they're done. Thanks.

sites are too close together. i understand that rv sales have sky rocketed so camping areas are busy but i prefer going places where i have some separation between my site and someone else's. we were there on a Thursday and rv areas were packed in. after reading the reviews, i see that there may be some that have more room, but ours was definitely not one of them. there was even an rv across from us and his truck was just a little in the road and made it a little difficult to get out when we left. i doubt we will be back unless I happen across a site that looks like it has more room.

The park is ok. The staff chose to leave the restrooms dirty and in disrepair. The toilets were filled to the top with human waste. It was disgusting. The staff chose not to fix their bathrooms. For several days we couldn't flush the toilets. The staff chose not to clean their bathrooms. The bathrooms have been cleaned up by us but the staff didn't make sure they were clean before we arrived here. It's obvious that they don't want visitors here because they don't make it inviting for guests. The staff chose to leave the washing machines broken until we complained about them. The washing machines kept breaking down while we were trying to wash clothes. My family's clothing got stuck in the washer multiple times. One relative has to try to hand wash her comforter in the sink. The laundry room is infested with insects and they didn't clean up the dead insect bodies. Whoever is running this park is neglectful.

It's a good thing I was in good company because the lake thunderbird state park doesn't take good care of this property. My own family had to clean up lake thunderbird bathrooms and they don't pay us to do...
