Great conservation area with lots of trails and a BIG view at the top π€©βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈπ. From the intersection of Hammond Rd and Bauneg Hill Rd in North Berwick, the trailhead pull off is about 1/2 mile on the left. Look for the trail map sign ππ. GPS may tell you to turn left onto a dead end rd, but donβt as thereβs a no trespassing sign π₯°. The trail starts and meanders thru a hardwood forest and gets a little steep after A 10 minute walk. Keep ascending thru the beautiful Hemlock and Black birch woods until it levels off. Shortly after it levels off, youβll see a cluster of signs, and the top of the mountain β° is off to the left ππ. About 20-30 minutes one way. You can then take a loop trail that goes down below the peak and comes up the other side. That trail is a 10 minute loop. Huge boulders and cool rock formations on the loop trail and DEFIANTLY worth checking out. I wasnβt expecting much when I arrived here, but was VERY pleasantly surprised. Β Β Β Read moreI live within 10 minutes of this hike. For three years I have lived here and when I was on a health kick I hiked this trail 35 times in 40 days. It's awesome. We had a porcupine friend at the top that lived in the rocks when you're almost at the view and it was awesome to visit him (without getting close or bothering them) for the time we loved this hike.
I've gotten a bit lazy and away from going here, but we met the caretakers one hike as well and they are wonderful people. They were incredibly friendly and informative and chose to spend about an hour just discussing the hike with us.
Don't miss this if you're in the area, it's a lot of uphill, but almost anyone can do it as I'm not in good shape myself and for about 30 minutes of effort you get incredible views and back to the...
Β Β Β Read moreI decided it was time to get myself ready for some fall/winter big mountain hiking and I found out about this area from a friend. It was an short and easy hike with great views!
I headed up the North Mountain Trail and went through Devils Den (lovely rocky ledge climb), and then headed down from the summit looping back into the main Bauneg Beg trail.
It was a great starter hike. My GPS hiking app said it was 1.75 miles with ~500 feet of net elevation gain. It took about half an hour both ways (less going down). At 863 feet high, middle peak is higher than the nearby Mt Agimenticus. The views NW to NE were absolutely beautiful. I'll surely be doing more hiking here! Bauneg Beg Mountain South is also a great to do together with Middle and North. It's just south on...
