I need to be careful here. This is a non profit which survives off of donations. So my input will be to put forward improvements so this non profit can be stronger and continue doing what itâs attempting to do with beautiful grounds and wonderful people. My wife and I attended the âCandlelightâ tour at Johnson Farms this past Sunday. The only thing âCandlelightâ about it were fake battery operated flicker candles on various mantles in the historic brick house. Suggestions. Use volunteers to string some white Christmas lights out the back door and up the dark walkway to the brick house and from there to the.Boarding House. While theyâre at it, have them frame the barn in white Christmas lights as well. Put some white Christmas lights on the porch of the Ed Center. Put some luminaries along the front sidewalk and in between the historic buildings. Give the guests some of those battery operated flicker candles to carry from building to building. Make it a true âCandlelightâ tour. Get the chamber string quartet there an hour before the tours begin so guests arriving can enjoy it. Have softened Christmas music playing on the grounds and in the houses. Have the school students serving the cocoa and cookies dress in red with white shirts and dark slacks with Santa hats. Provide a small woolen coaster as a gift from the artisans at the Boarding House. A small tangible token encourages a larger purchase in the artisan gift shop. Have planning meetings with the tour guides so that theyâre rehearsed, know their scripts and donât repeat stories. Thereâs a lot of potential here which can be made a reality with more planning, some time, hundreds of dollars not thousands and the continued cooperation of the volunteers. We had a pleasant time. Itâll be even better with improvements. Go. Attend the Christmas evenings coming up. Support this heartfelt historic and educational foundation and...
Read moreMy daughter took me to the Historic Johnson Farm Candlelight Christmas. What a gift! Having grown up in Henderson County, I was instantly took back to my childhood and reminded so much of the years gone by. The authentic way in which the house has been preserved makes it such a wonderful treat to see. The tour guides shared such heartfelt stories, it was apparent that they were invested in the farm and its rich history. The Christmas decorations made an inviting and charming atmosphere. I appreciate the fact that we have such a place here in our county to enjoy. I look forward to returning again to other events that the farm hosts. A job well done by all who...
Read moreThe grounds are available for guests to roam for free, meaning you can see the buildings (main home, barn, etc.) and go on two walking trails (very short, less than 5 minutes each). There are several picnic tables in the shade, and overall a good place for a family picnic. Also, there are several chickens and three donkeys at the barn, which my son thoroughly enjoyed. I did not see a single person (employee or visitor) during the 45 minutes I spent here. The building with the restrooms was locked, although it was during a time when the website said the...
