Shore-Styers Mill Park — Attraction in North Carolina

Only about 7 spots to park, after that, you must park along the roadway. The main issue we found was there was trash all over the place from the side of the roadway to the park itself. It is apparent being a County Park that no park personnel maintain the cleanliness. There are no garbage cans and it appears that many visitors are slobs and leave everything from food, bear cans, bottles to dirty diapers. The area is heavily wooded and from the roadway it's a bit rocky to walk down to the waterline. There are small areas along the waterline but they are not groomed but more just a small open spot. If you have a dog that loves the water it's a great place as the river is not deep. The falls were nice but it's a one time visit for us. Upon arriving to a non occupied area we did pick up a garbage bag filled with cans, paper from the area around us. If more people cleaned up after themselves rather than being pigs, I would have given the park...

I visited these falls towards late July. The water was nice and cool. It wasn't crowded - I went at 5:00 pm on a weekday. I climbed the falls twice, once towards the far right and the second was on the opposite side where the rocks were a bit slippery. I had help. I saw a couple kids do it but I still wouldn't recommend it. Attempt at your own risk. The water at the top, right before it goes over the rocks, felt sooo amazing. That's my favorite spot. Take your time exploring the calmer areas as the water is not clear and there are so deeper spots that may catch you off-guard. Be mindful of wobbly...

This is a very pretty area with some interesting remains of the old mill. The trail is relatively short, so I would not recommend visiting to hike. It’s worth coming to see the old stone walls and check out the falls. Unfortunately, there is trash everywhere, can are full and there’s lots of litter. The steps to the falls are steep and there are no guardrails, but there is access via the trail starting to the left of the parking lot.
