Absolutely beautiful place to visit. Easy access off the Blue Ridge Parkway (mm 417 I think) and parking at the Looking Glass Rock overlook.

This place can get crowded fast in the summer, but it is worth it.

The Hike: From the parking lot just walk across the Blue Ridge Parkway and you will see the trail head. It is easily navigated even for the most novice hiker. About 500 to 1000 feet down the trail you will see an open area where you can go three different directions......just go straight here and the trail ends at the falls.

The hike itself is a very short distance, probably about a quarter mile. There are natural and man made stairs, lots of roots and stones and a lot of up and down hill, but is easily traversed. I just did it with my 4 yr old grandson and it took us about 5-10 minutes max. It is a heavily travelled trail in summer but lots of families do it.

The Falls: Once you get there, there's several sections of falls and nice plunge pools to swim in. The water is VERY cold, but on sunny days plenty of sunshine comes through to warm you up quickly.

For the daredevils, the middle of the falls has a really nice deep pool and some big boulders to jump off into the water, or throw down a towel and just soak up the sun.

It is definitely worth the...

What an awesome trail! We were in Asheville for the weekend and drove out to the Blue Ridge Parkway to check out this trail.

First off, the views you get to soak in on the way to the trail are magnificent! The roads are full of tight turns to get up there, but that was half the fun!

The trail itself is easy to access from the main road, but use Google Maps get you there. We didn't see much in the way of signage on the way.

It's a nice hike down to the falls area through the forest. I thought it was cool to see the parkway super high up as we were making our way to the falls.

The falls were a great view to take in! There is a small wooden bridge that takes you across to a spot where you can climb up to the top. There is also a spot to the right of the bridge that will take you further down river.

The water was clear, cold, and refreshing! The trail was clean and it's easy to find your way. I highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area- we had...

It was nice the cold water was so refreshing... Don't let people like saying it's an easy hike it sucked to hike to the falls it's long probably a mile or so of very uneven terrain.. expected for mountain terrain but as a fat guy with a metal knee, asthma, and a sheer bone of lazy it was hard and some spots were very steep. however once you reach the falls it's breath taking the water clean and clear and cold cold cold. there's rocks to jump from and places to sunbathe.... Only problem there was sooooooo many people. And these crazy people bringing their dogs and forcing them into the ice water when it is very obviously clear the dog does not want no part of that cold water... And dogs barking because there were like 30 of them... And the occasional dog poop..but other than that lovely with the massive amount of bikini wearing vixins and ripped ab bro dudes...

Not too far from the parkway itself, pretty shallow falls. nice wooded trail with various interesting species of moss, trees, ferns and other native plants. Songbirds and Butterflies. Not wheelchair accessible, or even disabled. I am disabled, and going downward 3/4 of a mile is real challenging as there are lots of steps built with tree branches. the paths are marked , but where paths cross, there could be some confusion. Just follow the path that has the most human built steps and who descend. Cool Dragonhead shaped tree on the way down. There is also a real steep chair. Climbing back up was easier than descending to the falls. Lots of people brought a dog; I wished there were more picnick areas near the lookout area's on this part of the parkway. we had to leave the parkway to find more picknick area's around coontree and sliding rock on 276.
