I have to say this course was absolutely incredible! However there were some things I didn't particularly care for either. I have been wanting to play this course for the last 5 years and it seemed like every time I would try to plan a trip something would come up. Well November of 2019 I finally made it happen. Again, I cannot say enough about the actual course! It was everything I thought it would be and more. I do not think there is another course like it...There may be similar courses but this one was special. It blew my mind to think that someone had actually envisioned what we played. As stated previously there were a few things I didn't care for . First being the driving range. It was kind of a disappointment considering the reputation of the course and the price to play the course. I despise hitting off mats but I understand it is necessary sometimes. It was a very mediocre hitting range that you can find at most muni/cheap courses. The putting greens however were fantastic and really some what prepared you for what you were going to face on the course. The second issue was with figuring out the course and how to navigate it. Even with yardage books and iphone apps it was rather difficult to know where you were suppose to hit and where to drive. There were multiple scenarios were cart paths converged and we had no idea which way to go. Both of these issues caused us to take more time than usual to play our shots. Lastly, I will say of all of these the most important is customer service. While we did not experience bad customer service we did not have a great customer experience when dealing with the staff with the exception of the lady at the grill and one of the rangers. A persons body language, smile and tone all have a big effect on the customer experience. Compared to our previous two days at other courses in the region, this experience was a far cry from the other two. Golfers are what keeps the doors open so I think remembering that would go a long way in the future. Regardless of these 3 issues, I will definitely be back down one day to hopefully get some much needed revenge on the hardest course I have ever played! EDIT - We were not aware that caddies were available....If this is your first time it is a MUST!!! I have played for 20 years and never been so clueless on a course lol

This morning was my last day in NC, and I concluded it by playing the highly acclaimed Mike Strantz designed Tobacco Road Golf Course. To say this didn't disappoint is an understatement. It was fun and frustrating at the same time. The staff was very hospitable in all encounters. I was paired up with a great family. Mother, father, and son in total 4 in our group. Course: Let's get the conditions out of the way first. WOW! I wish the previous 2 courses were this dry and firm. There was only a small amount of standing water in 2 waste areas, off the fairway. The greens were on the slower side but just quick enough to kill you on downhill putts. The greens did roll true, and I didn't notice any bouncing of the ball. I had a putt that was easily over 100 feet. Unfortunately, it lipped out, and I had a tap in for par. Everything within 5 yards of the green I putted because it played like a links course on many holes. The hills will devastate you if you don't play just right. I had a 6 iron i to a Par 5 and ended up 10 feet from a 20-30 foot steep bunker face. I just barely cleared the top and then had to chip onto the green. There's more sand here than all the beaches in florida. It was firm enough to use bounce and get a great amount of spin. I found half of the Fairways on the front and everyone on the backside. Bring your A game when it comes to wedges and putting. This is where I struggled. Yes, i kept it under 30 putts, but i could have had far fewer. Final: As anyone who has played this course, I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

This was my first time playing the course. The course is fun, somewhat difficult, and probably one of the best courses I’ve ever played. The only issue we had and needs to be addressed management is one of the rangers continuously “harassed” during the round. We were a group of 4 and one guy just started playing golf. We tee’d off at 8:10 and finished our round at 12:35. For a 4 some and the first time playing the course I say that was a good pace of play. The ranger came to us 3 times and told us we needed to hurry our play. Be mindful we had absolutely no one behind us or pushing us. If so I would totally understand. This same ranger also picked up my playing partners ball from the rough along with another ball on hole number 2. The ranger then placed my playing partner’s ball in a spot the ball was not even originally at. This is ridiculous and bothered my playing partner because he plays the ball where it lies and to have the ranger just pick up his ball is unacceptable. We paid $175 a person and to be rushed for no apparent reason is absolutely absurd. Would I play there again, probably but I want to make everyone aware of the issues we had and prepare to feel rushed after paying an astronomical amount of money for a round of golf that you’re suppose to enjoy. The staff in the pro shop were great and the cart worker was awesome, the ranger on the course was below par!

A great golf experience, with every hole being memorable but they are in desperate need of new golf carts. My group had trouble driving up every hill, and the group in front of us had a golf cart die on them and they had to abandon it in the middle of the round. Also, for the price was expecting outside staff to give our clubs a once over with a towel and make sure they were clean to earn a tip when we finished our round, but were no where to be found. The course was in great condition except for the tee boxes, which seemed to be worn out, to be expected late in the season I suppose. Also, don't expect to play quickly here with almost every hole having blind shots, and deep bunkers. Our group took about 5 hours to play with only 5 groups ahead of us. I would try for the earliest tee time you can get as not to have wait on every shot. But for the steep price, I don't blame people for taking their time and enjoying the moment, the golf course deserves it.

I absolutely love playing golf at Tobacco Road Golf Club! This course is a true gem and provides an unforgettable golfing experience. The course is challenging yet fair, and the layout is truly unique. From the dramatic elevation changes to the natural sandscapes and waste areas, every hole is an adventure. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the facilities are top-notch. The clubhouse is beautiful and well-appointed, and the practice facilities are excellent. But what really sets Tobacco Road apart is the scenery. The course is set in a beautiful North Carolina natural landscape and the views are simply stunning. It's a true joy to play a round of golf here and soak in the beauty of the surrounding countryside. I highly recommend Tobacco Road Golf Club to anyone who loves golf and appreciates a well-designed, very challenging course. It's definitely one of my favorite golf courses, and I can't wait to come back and play again soon!

Courses like this one are rare. Some might say thats a good thing. I disagree. This is an experience golf course. Not for the faint of heart, but very playable once you get by the intimidation factor. I was afraid of the "Mickey Mouse" factor reading some reviews. But with a couple exceptions this design avoids that entirely and the exceptions are minor. The par 5 on the back nine (13?) is untouchable in two with the exception of the best of the best. The green complex is like none I've seen. Overall this course deserves to be played if you have the opportunity. Use the app it really helps the first time. Play conservative and play it as it sets up. Its an experience rarely found anywhere.
