Toms Creek Falls is a scenic 60-foot waterfall located north of Marion. It's an easy hike, less than a mile round trip and the trail and overlook has recently been made handicapped accessible. From exit 86 on I-40, go north on US-221 about 12 miles and turn left on Huskins Branch Road. The road starts out paved, turns to gravel, then back to paved. About 1.2 miles from the turn, there is a parking area on the right, just past a gravel road and right before the bridge over Toms Creek. Hike the Falls Branch Trail (#214) less than a half-mile to the waterfall. The trail follows an old roadbed, so it's an easy stroll in the woods. The trail leads to an accessible overlook with views of the waterfall. It's also possible to go past the overlook right up to the base of the waterfall and wade in the shallow water. The watershed is small so the water flow is always low, but its still a scenic waterfall with the water falling in a tall, narrow stream in several distinct sections. There used to be an old mica mine right next to the waterfall. It had filled with water but you could get into the entrance. On my most recent visit, it looked like the mine had collapsed and the Forest Service had Do Not Enter...

This was an easy, short walk with a beautiful waterfall at the end. We aren't serious hikers, more like scenery cheaters that want the reward without all the work. We took this walk with our 2 year old (and 2 month old strapped on me), and he didn't have any issues. We even passed a few older crews walking. There is benches along the way if you need to stop for a break. There's an observation deck at the bottom of the falls. You can stop there or you can take the steps up higher to get an even better view. We noticed more trails that went higher, but we didn't tackle those for obvious reasons with a toddler. There's interesting rocks a long the walk and you're basically walking beside a nice flowing creek the whole walk. It's definitely a calm beautiful walk that we...

Just a short distance from our home is Tom Creek Falls!

Located near Marion, NC the trail to this waterfall is an easy hike and is excellent for families and children. At 8/10ths of a mile round trip, it's short enough that adults who have to carry tired kids won't be too worn out at the end to enjoy it themselves. The waterfall isn't the only thing to enjoy on this trail, however. Along the way you'll see hardwood forest with smaller streams, a bridge, huge boulders, and flakes of shiny mica. Kids will love the small pool at the base of the 60-foot falls which is perfect for wading. During the Spring there are a wide variety of wildflowers to see...
