Beware! I went for a walk April 2024 and had a disturbing experience. This was my first visit and most likely my last. It is a beautiful place and I wouldn't worry if you stay by the water and playground. However, I went down the Ashley/Ladd Trail because I enjoy peaceful walks. On this trail, right over the small bridge I all of a sudden could hear loud music playing. Thinking it was a lost phone I walked on and found a foreign man laying down as if he was resting. He seemed friendly and paused the music I said "Hi" he said "Hi" back. When I walked past he started to play the music again really obnoxiously loud. I thought it was strange that I only heard it when I was in eyesight and then past him. So, I felt the need to do an experiment and turned around and walked past him going back where I came from. The loud music stopped after I was past him. My instincts were right and it was a signal to someone further up the trail. I don't know his intention as I was not willing to find out. If you go here just stay away from the trail. LISTEN to your instincts no matter...
Read moreThe staff was knowledgeable and nice enough, the place was beautiful and clean. The lake is stocked with shad and we saw lots of schools on the top of the water. One angler near my daughter and I caught a dozen crappie and half were keepers. The sun made it almost unbearable for the time of day we went. Our next trip will include a trolling motor so we can enjoy more than the two small piers they have. I like that there are no gas engines. The space is fairly quiet. The regulations don't allow you to fish from the banks because bank fishing erodes the shoreline and disrupts the natural filtering of the runoff. Neat concept, but it does limit access for folks. A concrete fishing walk along a 50 foot stretch would give you better access, but I understand protecting the water quality. I hope to have some pictures to share on...

Update 12/31/20: Walked the Ashley Ladd Trail with my kids today and what an amazing trek it was. My 7 and 10 year old had a blast hiking this beautiful trail to the Dam. My 10 year old daughter kept commenting on how beautiful the trail was with it's especially "cool" creek crossing bit. Before leaving we went to check out the camp sites, which, look very new and perfectly laid out. As a native to Davie county for almost 3 decades, Yadkin County has made some amazing moves with their rec & parks system. Kudos to everyone involved in...
