This place is a little out of whichever way you're going on highway 83 but WORTH THE DRIVE! Not only is the scenery beautiful but it's FREE! And you get a free tour! I never realized how many different fish there are. The best part about this is it's all about conservation! Our tour guide was a German volunteer! Please visit this place and ALL fish hatcheries EVERY WHERE along any trips you take! It is amazing to see how hard the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service works with volunteers to preserve, protect and breed endangered fish! Definitely worth the visit!!!!

It was very educational and our tour guide was very knowledgeable about everything, we got to feed some fish and pet some fish. We got to see an albino trout in one of the holding tanks, very awesome. We will most definitely be going back and recommending to other people to take the tour , it's free so you have absolutely nothing to lose 😻

Great free tour of this national fish hatchery. The volunteer who gave us the tour was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour is not long and is very informative. They even have a rock garden they let you paint your own rock to add to the rock garden. Great for kids.

Every time we are up in Riverdale, Downstream, or staying in the state park this is the main place my kids want to go visit. They absolutely love the rock painting activity they have going on now and love seeing all the fish. The staff/volunteers are always amazing which makes the experience more enjoyable. Would recommend going here if you can. Also keep in mind that this is a National Hatchery not just a State Hatchery which makes it unique since it can send fish to other states for...

I think the Garrison Dam fish hatchery is manned by volunteers. They greeted you as you came in and explained that you could take a scheduled guided tour or a self-guided tour through out the facility. Even tho we missed the guided tours, a gentleman (maybe a volunteer?) offered to take a group us through and explained everything to us. It was amazing and very informative. We really appreciated the tour. The people working here are to be...
