If you're looking for a wonderful place to hike without many people at all.....this is for you. I would recommend researching a trail map before hand as there are no maps there and no trail signage. If you generally follow the lake around in a loop you will be okay, but there's many side trails off to other small ponds and things. While you can get turned around easily on those spurs, most of them lead to an obvious parking lot or a return to a spot you will recognize.
I like the loop around the lake. I believe it is about 3 or 4 miles. There's a ramp for kayaks and canoes. Not sure about motorized boats on the main lake but we saw canoes and kayaks.
I hear it's good fishing here but I would not know personally.
We just love the silence and solitude. Yes, at one time you can tell this place was much more utilized and treasured, but I still feel it's maintained...
Read moreWe always catch and release on this lake. 13 lakes and ponds on this property, at one point in time you had to make reservations 2 weeks in advance to fish Lake La Su An, with only 4 boats or couples allowed on the lake at one time. It's no longer tightly regulated and La Su An is now almost fished out. So... we tried Ed's Pond, Hogback Pond, Jerry's Pond, Lake Mel, Wood Duck Pond, Lake Ann, Lake Sue, and Lake Lavere, all with better results than the main lake. Clem's Pond is hard to get to, and Ed's Pond and Lake Teal are both well hidden. Jerrys Pond has massive cat tails. Wood Duck has its own parking lot, along with Sue, Ann, and Lavere. Boat ramps are on Sue, Ann, La Su An, and Lavere. Massive mosquito population at Clem's, Lou's, and Hogback Ponds. Fishing license required on all ponds and lakes. Only open on certain days- Friday...
Read moreWe stopped here having never been before and did the loop hike around Lake La Su An which came out to be just short of 3 miles. It was about 50% in the woods and 50% along the edge of the woods in the sun. We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet trail to ourselves that had moderate(Ohio standards) elevation gain. There is nearly zero access along the trail for fishing the main lake, though there are a few small ponds along the trail that offer bank access from the trail.
There is plenty of parking available at the lake, and 2 fishing piers to fish from. Bank fishing is just about non-existent, so fishing from the piers or bring a boat/kayak to access all the little coves...
