Overall, we had a lovely evening. The food was generally very good, but several of us at the table were taken aback at the main course of Beef Brisket-- it was dry, hard and difficult to swallow, not soft as it should be if properly cooked. My husband compared it to beef jerky. Either something went very wrong or someone is not familiar with how to cook beef brisket. I thought perhaps they had a new cook on or there was an emergency and they didn't have time to cook it long enough to soften, or have enough time to let it rest before carving. In any case, I dropped a note to the coordinator trying to give them a heads up that there was a mishap, and from the reply, which did not address the issue at all, I have to assume they actually intended to cook it like this, or perhaps they take no responsibility for an off night. It is a lovely small business and I wish them the best, but the brisket was not fit to serve, especially considering the price of $125 a head. The place is unlike any farm I’ve been to, more than just acres of fields & rows of plants, it felt like we stepped into an enchanted botanical garden surrounded by little forests with winding paths & colorful creatures. At the center is the elegant farmer's table where you’re served by a warm & welcoming crew as you get to know other folks who share your appreciation for real farm to table cuisine.
Everything here is no doubt done with heart, from how they nurture the land to the food they prepare with thoughtfulness. They offer a lovely tour & appetizers before the sit-down dinner with several courses plus some special after-dinner treats, mostly from what they grow or otherwise locally grown or raised. All of it was beautifully presented & delicious with unique, well-balanced flavors & textures.
