Bucktail State Park is best enjoyed as a road trip. From Emporium to Lock Haven on route 120, the park encompasses multiple pieces of land on both sides of the west branch of the Susquehanna River. The park lands are mostly a preserve, so activities other than fishing, are not encouraged. However, there are some great vistas along the way. Bucktail Overlook near Driftwood is also called Top of the World. Pictures can't really capture it, as it's a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains. Sinnemahoning Vista is actually in Keating. Take Keating Mountain Road into the Sproul State Forest and watch carefully for a wooden sign (see in my pictures). It's easy to miss. A short walk gets you to a great view of the river and state park lands down below. On the way up there's also a great east view of the river, but not much space to pull over. Be careful driving. It's a dirt road and very rutted. Not in the park, I also visited the Emporium Overlook. Make this easy drive on a paved road for a beautiful view of the small town below. I also was fortunate to see three elk grazing along side the road on my trip. Route 120 is a beautiful fall foliage drive. Update: Sept 30, 2023. 414 acres have been added to the state park as part of Elk State Forest. It is north of the Bucktail Overlook (Top of the World) and includes more than 6,500 feet of frontage along Driftwood Branch Sinnemahoning Creek. This park is a natural area so access is limited, but fishing is a listed activity if you can find your way in. So this state park listing is very misleading in my opinion. There isn’t an actual park with this name. If you follow the GPS, it just takes you to the top of the mountain where the sign is. It’s actually just a route that you drive along. I live relatively close and I still didn’t realize that and we kept driving around and around, trying to find an actual natural area. If you do the passport, PA State Park book they do have a stamp for this park, but I can’t quite remember where I got it. I had it stored away and it must’ve been obtained at a different park close by. Maybe I got it at top of the world? Not sure! Top of the world is worth a stop, but it is not the same location as this is here in the coordinates.

It's not the park itself I think Google didn't give me the right directions because when I got there there was nothing but a top of a mountain and a very dangerous road
