🌊 Hickam Beach – Hidden Peace Just for the Military Ohana 🛩️🌴
Hickam Beach isn’t flashy, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It’s one of those quiet gems tucked away from the crowds—clean, peaceful, and strictly for the military community. No packed tourist beach vibes here—just the sound of gentle waves, swaying palms, and the occasional fighter jet taking off like a beast from the nearby runway ✈️😎.
This spot became a personal sanctuary for me. I used to ride my mountain bike through the trails every morning, soaking in that salty breeze and watching the sun rise as planes launched into the sky. Talk about a front-row seat to paradise mixed with power. It's not just a beach—it’s a place to breathe, reflect, and reset.
The beach itself? Well-kept, never crowded, and with plenty of space to just stretch out and enjoy. Whether you’re into kayaking, paddleboarding, or just chilling with a book and a coffee, Hickam gives you room to do your thing without feeling rushed or surrounded.
It’s also lined with well-maintained trails, great for biking, jogging, or taking a slow stroll if you’re just looking to clear your head. And the view—ocean on one side, Air Force action on the other—is a unique combo you won’t find just anywhere.
Perfect for military families, early morning warriors, or anyone who appreciates the quieter side of island life. Respect it, enjoy it, and remember how lucky we are to have spots like this reserved for the...
Read moreThis is one of the island’s best beaches! It’s only open to military members, though it does get busy when school is out. There are lifeguards on duty, an MWR kiosk where gear and kayaks can be rented by the hour or day, and there are showers and lots of covered benches. There’s a large parking lot with two overflow lots right down the way...it’s next to the base restaurant. It’s out of the way, making it the perfect spot to just relax. It’s right next to the airstrip for the airport, so there are some pretty cool views for the kids (noise isn’t hardly an issue). It’s GORGEOUS! Beautiful blue water makes the sky extra pretty, even when it’s overcast. There are some slight waves, but nothing that even the youngest kid can’t easily play in. My favorite part is that there are no rocks—the kids can comfortably swim barefoot without worrying about cutting their foot or stepping on wildlife. The showers are easy to use and there’s never a line. There are also benches on the hill above the beach, and my kids enjoy walking along the sidewalks to find sticks/nuts/insects. Your family can easily make a day of this beach trip! There’s shade, water, sand, grills, showers, bathrooms, and even...
Read morePrivate military beach on Hickam side of jbphh. Right of the runway, this is a great place for calm water kayaking and sup in the protecting harbor. There are lifeguards on station daily during normal beach hours and mwr offers rentals of sup, kayaks, wind surfers, sailboats, and power boats. They take cash or card. There is a nice grassy area just before the beach for picnics and it has picnic tables and trees offering shade. Just before that is an area off the rocky shore designated for fishing. The restaurant here used to be Sam Choys but is now called The Lanai at mamala Bay. Great food and an awesome outdoor seating area with cover and large ceiling fans to keep you cool. It's a great date night destination but is very popular so get there early. They usually host a lot of large command gatherings so they can get busy around lunch time and late afternoon as well. Overall, the Hickam beach area is an easily accessible and nice stop for a quick beach visit. We usually go here during the week when we want to make a quick beach stop but don't want to deal with the traffic or crowds of the other...
