Decent agricole rum, good service, short tour, unclear promos.
As an avid rum connoisseur I always look for distillers in the different countries, islands, and locales I visit. I have never visited an Agricole rum distiller (in short, no additives, non-molasses) so wanted to see what this was all about.
We did two tastings (different visits) of the tour package tasting and the upgraded one. The 6 we tried were ok. You could tell the rums didn't have additives (flavoring) and were made from pure sugar cane, not molasses. As I prefer darker rums, and my wife more flavorful ones, these didnt appeal to us that much. We did leave with a bottle of their chocolate "liqueur" however which was quite good. I may have bought a bottle of their 60% rum but was concerned w getting it back (as there was an accident with the bottles while we were there) and didn't want to pay a higher price for something that could break.
The tour was short but delivered with energy and passion by our guide - I hope she's ok as she got cut by a bottle later in the tour. You'll see the types of cane used, the barrels, and a distant outside view of the distillers.
Not my favorite distiller but worth the visit. The rums are different for sure and something anyone who likes rums should try - as most distillers use molasses.
Was disappointed by the $10 rum credit that we only got two of for some reason. Considering we bought 4 tastings (2 x 2 ppl) and each states it comes with a $10 credit, we assumed we could use $40 toward a bottle. They wouldn't allow that, even though it wasn't disclosed ahead of time. This dropped them another star for me, as I had to buy two rum items to even...
Read moreSuch a great experience! I have been here a few times for the tasting and always enjoyed it, but this last time we did the distillery tour with tastings with some family that's visiting. TLDR: it's a great experience, definitely check it out!
We had booked the tour a day before as it was supposed to rain that day and we thought it would be a good way to spend a rainy afternoon. It was a much more powerful storm than people were expecting and the day of, I got a phone call stating the power went out and that they wanted us to be able to make an informed decision whether or not we wanted to do the tour that day, reschedule, or refund. We took the first option and decided to give it a try even with the thought of power being out. We pulled up and luckily power had just come back on! It was great timing until the power went out again. The truly exceptional part? We still did the tour! We moved a lot of the talking points outside so we could see/hear better but it was such a great experience! Our guide Savannah (sp?) was excellent and gave us great information and answered all of our questions while dealing with the power issues. She also was great during the tasting explaining everything in detail and made sure our group was taken care of. I will definitely be back and hopefully next time no storm to knock the power out, not that it stopped the staff from being just as great! Thank you guys for making it a very memorable and informative tour despite not the...
Read moreAbsolutely 💯% worth going!! My son and I did the tour and tasting. It was definitely more than I thought. They are completely involved in the entire process from farm to bottling which I thought was great! They told about the different sugarcane varieties they have, of which are heirloom varieties. We got to see some of the varieties and the differences in their striped canes. We got to taste fresh pressed sugarcane juice. It tastes amazing! It was sweet but not overly so with a nice grassy, herbal, light floral clean taste. They have a variety of sugarcane they make a white rum with that was the supposed favorite of the King of Hawaii (the Kea variety). We toured the building where the rum matures. It smelled lovely with the faint scent of sweetend rum. The vapors that escape to the air from the casks are called "the angels share". They do smell heavenly. From there we went into the tasting room and got to try 5 varieties of rum including rum made from the Kea variety of sugarcane (the Hawaiian King's favorite variety). It was interesting how they all tasted so different. I walked away with a bottle of the Kokoleka (made with local honey and local cacao) and a high appreciation for the art and care taken to create AMAZING rums from...
