Our 11 year old was signed up for 3 weeks of summer camp, based on the descriptions of what was offered each week. We're so absolutely disappointed in several aspects of our first O'Fallon day camp experience. I have nothing positive to offer. The camp descriptions are delightful--but the actual camp experience was awful. Advertised fishing. Didn't happen. Advertised archery. Didnt happen. Advertised everything so well--but fell short on all accounts. The counselors at the drop off/pick up were rude. Absolutely rude. The process is efficient and totally simple enough-parent pulls up, gives counselors kids name, and they radio for the kid to come. Easy peasy. Every time I gave our daughter's name I got an odd look (sorry we aren't all named Jenny Jones or something familiar or similar). Even my sister mentioned how off putting they were on the one day she picked our daughter up. Unnecessary. Tacky. Such a bad impression. The camp counselors (namely Garrett and Nick) are not well trained and speak rudely to the campers (you suck; brat; loser). Granted, the counselors are high school kids---but if you sign up to be a camp counselor, you should actually WANT to be around kids all day. You can speak to your own child in whatever way--but not someone else's child, and certainly not as an adult responsible for a group of kids. It really makes me wonder---but now I understand WHY there is zero contact between parents and counselors. One counselor even said, "I'll fight your mom..." As if. Really???? Where are we, exactly?????
I ended up pulling our daughter out and getting a refund. This is the last place I'd trust with anyone's child! For once, Fairview Heights' Camp Kodiak wins, followed by the O'Fallon YMCA. I'm so disappointed in our experience. I sincerely hope this is not indicative of what the City of O'Fallon has to offer--because we will move out as quickly as we moved in. What a...
Read moreAbsolutely Terrible if I could rate 0 stars I would! Where to begin..... Camp will not and does not keep accurate files on campers such as doctor notes or special needs. If your child has a special need OF ANY KIND do not let them attend here. Camp will charge you to remain on wait list even not attending and not reimbursed if there is not an opening or if child is sick or family vacation. Counselors at the camp is 50 50. Some very nice and others that seemed to never grow out of the bully stage and like to make fun of small children. Facilty inside is very dirty and children run around unattended at times. When going to pick up my child early on 2 different occasions there was an issue locating him at the property, not sure about you but that is scary beyond words. The director of the Camp could not be less helpful or kind and caring. Essentially in a nutshell paying for unorganized chaos and to have your child belittled, made to feel inadequate and worried to attend other camps or activities in fear of being treated the same. 1000% would not recommend this camp to my worst enemy! Save your money, time, and...
Read moreOfallon has a very high real estate tax rate and it really shows when visiting one of its many parks. While the newest park on oberneuferman has every bell and whistle the families that use it could hope for, the old Ofallon park is a testament to the green space that suburban planners achieved in the last century. The community pool is still in use without any expansion since it was first put in and this at a time when pools in other communities filled theirs in and built anew. Though there is no old music gazebo there are several large pavilions where music is played many times from the spring to the fall. The baseball diamonds are well kept, the tennis courts updated on a regular basis, and the family equipment playgrounds inviting under 100 year old plus trees. Boasting an old log cabin available for small events and a large community center where classes are available for people of all generations, the park is a popular place for all members...
