Our lunch break during our tour, it was so delicious. I love shrimp so I was excited when our guide told us we would stop for shrimp. I got the original, and tried the pineapple peach and their hot chili sauce (amazing) my husband got the spicy shrimp, it wasn't spicy but the flavor was on point.

To my surprise the refuge was closed for the nesting season. It would have been great to know that before going there and see the sign. They don't specify when it would be open again, but don't go on December (Nene nesting, Refuge closed).

Went on the Saturday bird tour, guides were super knowledgeable and got to see a few endangered Hawaiian birds. Sign up super early as the season fills up fast.

We took a wildlife/birding tour of the refuge. The staff is very knowledgeable and the refuge itself is peaceful and a beautiful parcel of land. you should know, the website says 10/22/2023 Due to habitat and species sensitivity, James Campbell NWR is currently a closed refuge with restricted and limited public access. However, visitors are able to join guided bird tours during the non-breeding months of October to the end...
