I first found out about Island Alpaca via Tripadvisor when I was looking for things to do in Martha's Vineyard. I immediately contacted them via phone and they told me to submit an form with my preferred dates. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate my first preferred date.
We arrived a little bit late, but they were able to put us right into the tour. We had an 11am Alpaca Walk with 2 alpacas ($30 per alpaca, $20 per person sharing an alpaca). Our guide, Tayla, was absolutely amazing. She gave us a run-down of the tour, taught us how to handle the alpacas, and walked around during the tour to help us take photos and wrangle the alpacas.
I had Khan Dor and the in-laws had Atticus. You get roughly 20-25 minutes walking the alpacas, with tons of opportunities for pets, nuzzles, and photo ops!
Our alpaca, Khan Dor was more interested in an afternoon snack than us sometimes, but our guide taught us a super neat trick to get them to pose for photos. This was an absolutely amazing experience and I highly recommend it if you're on MV. Make sure you book early though, because they only do two walks a day!
If you're not able to get on an Alpaca Walk, they have a giant pen of alpacas that you can see and pet. There are plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal and everyone was super friendly and willing to answer questions about...
Read moreFor those seeking an exceptional and distinctive experience on Martha's Vineyard, the alpaca farm presents a delightful opportunity. Easily accessible by car, with ample parking available, the farm provides a convenience that is matched only by its charm.
Upon entry, visitors are greeted with a serene ambiance that sets the stage for a tranquil and pleasurable experience. The reasonably priced admission offers access to an array of attractions, but the highlight is undoubtedly the alpaca walk. Guided by knowledgeable and engaging staff, this unique encounter provides an intimate connection with the alpacas, creatures whose grace and beauty are sure to captivate.
The presence of the alpacas themselves cannot be overstated; their gentle nature and endearing appearance are a central feature of the farm. Their presence adds an undeniable allure that is both memorable and enchanting.
Moreover, the farm boasts a well-curated gift shop, stocked with a fine selection of alpaca-themed souvenirs and products. It serves as an excellent reminder of the visit and allows guests to take a piece of the experience...
Read moreBasically paid $5 per person for the family to “see” pride winning alpacas in the stable and yard and for the privilege of visiting the gift shop which was nice, but expensive. Maybe we just missed all the fun that day? No one was there to talk about the animals or answer questions. But seriously, we made a special trip by bus and foot to visit in hopes of a nice experience for our 4 kids, and it was pretty lame to have to pay for what we got. If it was off-season, then maybe the farm should just allow people to visit and donate if they so choose??? And sorry, I can’t imagine doing yoga with alpacas?—they smelled really bad (and and I’m used to farm work and smells). Also, alpacas are not really friendly animals— Why are they pretending that they are so sweet and cuddly? Now— if you are simply crazy about alpacas and excited about supporting the industry as a sustainable local textiles business—great! Do it— just don’t necessarily expect a super fun experience. Or call ahead to find out what’s actually happening...
