The lake is gorgeous and peaceful. The hike trails aren't too long, very manageable. But, parking was a mess to say the least. The parking lot is tiny and every spot was packed. The road going up from the parking lot had cars parked on the left side of the road going up. We went up and halfway, there were cars facing the OPPOSITE direction parked on the left side facing the other cars. We stopped between that as there were cars coming down and we were going up. It was a "one way" space road and there was NO space to move for the cars going down. There was no sign saying it was one way and which direction to go. We had no clue what to do as a car was coming up behind us. So, we had to reverse drive all the way down the road with the other car confused and everyone seemed confused and annoyed. There needs to be a better parking situation put in place. I've never had to experience such a confusion for parking. Parking was an annoying experience, but the lake itself was amazing.

After a short drive from dropping some friends off at the airport we arrived just before sunrise. It was a meandering hike through the woods with, I have to say, the MOST comfortable trail surface I have every hiked on. We walked along the thickly paved wood-mulched trail and noticed an assortment of wild life that didn’t seem to mind our presence. As the sun rose in the sky and the wide variety of birds differing songs filled the air, right next to the trail we paused to admire a couple fawns and their mom. I was too much in the moment to capture it. We walked a little further and we came to a bridge over the spillway, and from there the wood-mulched path turned to finely crushed gravel and asphalt until back into the woods on the other side of the lake. We will be coming back here again. Any time of day is nice, but in the morning was particularly special.

We got here at 6 a.m. Saw a momma deer and two fawn eating right off the trail. Watched the sun rise over the lake. The trails were the best we have ever hiked on, very comfortable with the mulch padding. All the trails are shaded by a tree canopy so even tho it was hot, we could stay longer because we didn’t overheat. Saw wild turkeys running across the path. I guess we missed the owl by a couple minutes. We stayed about 2.5 hours and can’t wait to go back!

I’ll start by saying that I worked here for over 4 years. This is a treasure and one of the most beautiful urban parks you will ever find. The staff is hard-working, knowledgeable, and strictly enforce all park rules, of which there are a lot. Make sure to stop and read one of the trail/road rules signs placed at the beginning of all the trails. This is a wildlife observation area first, everything else is secondary to that. You can’t fly your drone, swim, boat, fish, run on the trails or walk your dog on the trails because of this primary objective. If you want to trail run or hang a hammock, go somewhere else. If you want to walk through the woods with your dog running around, go somewhere else. If you want a one-of-a-kind nature experience and are willing to adhere to all the rules that make it that, then grab the camera and enjoy. Park hours are 6am-dark, contrary to anything Google says. If it is a pretty spring or autumn day, expect to wait in line for 30 minuets or more to park. Radnor gets over 1.5 million visitors a year, so be patient. Simply put, follow the rules and enjoy nature and this will be one of your great Nashville...
