What I did not find clear when preparing for the hike at Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias was that (1) parking is only available at the visitor center, where a shuttle is provided; and (2) one may choose different trails from 1 to 6 hours (or a full day, if you would stop frequently to take photos like me). We only planned for 2 hours and was not ready for the strenuous full trail (even if we had the time). There was quite some elevation changes so for a full day hike/photo trip, one should also have sufficient food and water. I am planning to return next time to visit the Wawona point (2073 m, where the hike starts at 1707 m). Fortunately, the short hike rewarded me with photo-ops of a deer and a chipmunk.

I recommend parking the car at the south entrance and then taking a shuttle bus to the trailhead, if the bus is available. It operates every 15-20 minutes in season. I also would Not recommend going on a very long hike as there are diminishing returns after some point. Maybe going 30-40 mins deep is enough, I would not go to explore all the trees

Awesome trail through giant sequoias. You can go for as little as a moderate 2 miles round trip, or see it all in about 6.5 miles (takes about 4 hours round trip). Check final shuttle time before boarding. Paid park admission required ($35 per vehicle).
