My birthday weekend at Blue Moon Rising could have only been better if we had stayed longer! Arrival: Ox was the employee manning the desk when we arrived and he remembered my girlfriend from her previous visits with her yoga studio retreat group. He checked us in, helped us load our gear onto the golf cart and drive us up to our cabin. He made sure we were all settled and understood where everything was and how it all worked before he left us to discover the rest of grounds on our own. Amenities: We stayed in a two person cabin called Kaya. It is well appointed and cozy. The thing about the cabins at Blue Moon Rising is that you probably won't spend much time inside them. Rather, you will live out your days near them. There is so much to do in the Deep Creek Lake area that we were only inside to eat and sleep. My only complaint about the cabin itself is the lack of a freezer. On the grounds: I'm not sure if it was just the weekend that we were there or if it is always this way, but it seemed that Blue Moon Rising attracts like minded people and we had a great time with Utah the other guests chatting and hanging out. We also explored the other cabins, the party tent area with a dance floor and plenty of room for a big group of party goers, the walking trails, and the common areas. Wildlife: We spent a bunch of time exploring the plants and fungi on our hike. But, the best part was seeing a baby bear 🐻 running across the road one time. No sign of momma bear 🐻, but we were on alert just in case. Note: make sure you keep your dog close by. Deep Creek Lake: Well... Too much to say about the area. Lots to do. Lots of fun. Food: we only ate out 2x. Once at Moon Shadow, the sister company to BMRising, and once at Rebecca's Pizza. Both were ok. If you are looking for an ice cream treat, I highly recommend Lakeside Creamery and their homemade ice creams! Checkout: Easy peasy. We called for a ride and the big red golf cart carried our gear back to the car. The young lady who drove the cart also gave us a hand loading the gear into the car.

I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend vacation at Deep Creek Lake because I totally loved my cabin here! My husband and I came here to celebrate my birthday, and to get away from the city for Memorial Day weekend. We stayed at the cabin called Walden, and it was exactly what I envisioned! My favorite color is red and it has a red door and red furniture!!! haha Anyway, the cabin has a kitchenette, seating to eat, chairs to sit, a queen bed on the main floor, two twin beds at the top floor (climb up the ladder to the loft) and a bonus outdoor shower (we totally used it and shower ourdoors was quite exilerating!) The cabin was so comfy, and on a hot day it was very cool because the house was hidden in the woods and away from the sun. This place is also dog friendly, and some of the cabins offer multiple beds for a family of 4 or 5. Please note, that you cannot drive your car straight to the cabin. You must park your car at the office, and the cabin is up the hill. You would either walk up the hill or ask a staff member to drive you up the hill in a golf cart. At first we didn't like it, but after the second night it makes sense - this to ensure the cabin area is quiet and calm without cars driving and honking. I really appreciate the quietness! Also, the walk up isn't that bad (1/8 of a mile or 1000 feet up if I were to guess) and we needed the exercise. The staff members (Rob and Whitney are they names, I think?) were wonderful! They answered the office phone prompty and came to give us a ride when needed. We already booked our second trip back to Blue Moon Rising. We totally recommend this place if you are going to visit Deep Creek Lake and you need a quiet and serene place to stay!

A Wonderful Vacation Spot

My boyfriend and I decided on a holiday getaway to Deep Creek Lake, which is one of our favorite vacation spots to go and unwind. In the past, we always went with a large group. This time, it was just the two of us. After researching hotels and AirBnB, I stumbled upon Blue Moon Rising. It is a small community of Tiny Houses perched up on a mountain, across from the lake. (Side note: if you do have a big group, call them and see if they can accommodate it.) After reading all of the information, it sounded like a perfect spot to go and unwind. The tiny houses are all unique and have a variety of sleeping options. We also appreciated their care for the environment. We both drive EVs and try to leave as small a footprint as possible, so this really spoke to us. At the time of booking, the only cabin left was Cairn. This came with a queen sized loft and two twin beds on the main floor. It has a small kitchen, equipped with a toaster over, a NuWave cooktop, dishes, glasses, utensils, etc. It also has a small fridge. They also provide a French press and some coffee. There is a full bathroom inside, with a standup shower. There is also an outside shower that looks like an outhouse.

The tiny houses do not have TVs or Air Conditioning, but they do have heat and a ceiling fan. They also have some additional box fans upon request. I was a little apprehensive about staying in a place with no AC in July...especially since I am hot natured. But, AC was not needed. We left some of the windows open and had the ceiling fan and box fan going and it was perfect...in fact, it actually got too cold two of the nights we were there...we woke up and shut some of the windows and turned off the fans. Wi-Fi is included and works very well. If we wanted to watch TV or a Movie, we just used our ipad.

Also, there are no cars allowed up where the cabins are...so no motors running, no horns honking, no doors slamming. This makes for an incredibly quiet environment. The parking is all down by the main office. You park and, if you would like, the staff will drive you up to your cabin in an electric golf cart.

Some of the amenities include a pavilion with tables and a community kitchen equipped with a full range and an oven. They also have grills and an ice machine. They also have a dock down by the lake if you want to do any lake activities. They are also located directly across the street from several aquatic shops where you can rent boats, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, jet skis, etc. They also have miles and miles of hiking trails on site.

The staff is all very warm and friendly. They have no problem shuttling you up and down the hill and assisting with issues in the cabin, if any arise.

The only sorta kinda negative thing I can say about Blue Moon Rising (which wasn’t a big negative for us) is the giant hill you have to climb to get back to your cabin. During the week, the staff is available until 8pm and until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. If you go out and get back past these times, you will have to walk up to your cabin from the parking lot, there is no shuttle available. The hill is rather steep and is a bit of a challenge, especially if you are carrying stuff back. My boyfriend and I are both pretty active, so it was not a big problem for us...but it was still a workout to get up there. I only mention this so people that are not very physically active are not surprised. Deep Creek Lake is not the most happening in terms of night life, so if you need to be back before 8pm to catch a ride back to your cabin, you are not going to miss much. Most of the fun activities in the area occur during the day. Please keep in mind that I am going by their posted hours only...If you have a physical disability or need special arrangements made, I would recommend talking to them before booking your stay. They made be able to accommodate special arrangements. We did not need them, so we did not ask.

We will definitely be...

I booked a cabin for a couple nights with my boyfriend and our cat to get away from work and school for a bit. We all loved the unique look and cozy feel of the cabin! We also loved the loft and all the windows for natural light in our cabin. The beds are comfy with nice bedding, fresh folded towels in the bathroom, and everything you need in the kitchen for camping meals. All the porches have string lights which creates a beautiful sitting area outdoors to enjoy after a day of hiking. The location was also great. We were nicely tucked away in the woods, close to trails, local shops, the lake, etc. Every cabin on the property is a little different and is well spaced out - you can do your own thing if you'd like or socialize with neighbors. Besides the amazing aesthetics of Blue Moon, I have to give a shout out to their staff. Less than 24 hours into our trip our cat decided he wanted to have his own getaway and to our horror he ran out of the cabin and into the woods. We searched all over the property but there was no sign of him. The next morning we were supposed to check out, but we spoke with Rob who was kind enough to let us stay while we looked for our cat. Later in the day we ran into Ray who was working hard cleaning the cabins, but took time out of his day to help look as well. The staff even let us set up humane traps on their land that the local animal shelter let us rent. By night fall of day two my boyfriend and I were physically and emotionally exhausted. It was a tough decision but we decided we had to travel the 3 hours home to return to work/school and let animal control take it from there. A few hours later while cleaning up the cabin we heard a little meow at the door and in walked our cat as if nothing had happened. I cannot explain the relief I felt! It is all thanks to the wonderful Blue Moon staff who showed a couple of strangers and their cat such kindness that we were able to go home as a family. Blue Moon Rising certainly has a life time...
