We enjoyed a pleasant 3-day weekend here for our first stay. The cabin has a lot of charm and character. There is enough space for privacy between the cabins and the area was relatively quiet, even on a night when every sight was reserved.

There’s no master bedroom, which was not a problem for us. We just all went to bed at the same time.

Pluses: I love seeing the lake. My son caught a decent Northern Pike from the dock. The woods are brimming with deer and other creatures. Heard some exotic-sounding birds from our cabin deck.

Oakland is a neat country town, ready to serve visitors with a lot to eat, see, and do. The dog came along this time and loved joining us on a hike to the rock maze. Definitely check out the rock maze!

We enjoyed pizza at Brenda’s with a terrific view of the lake followed by a trip downhill on the alpine coaster and gem mining at Wisp Ski Resort.

Downside: (just one) There are no outdoor fires permitted except in one of two community fire rings. They graciously stock each cabin with dry firewood, but only for the indoor fireplace inserts. I’m personally only familiar with traditional fireplaces without a door on the front, so bring pellets and kindling or you’ll be without a fire that night.

Question for the Ranger: Why aren’t campfire rings at each cabin? Who goes camping and does naturally think of burning a campfire. I’m...

This park is beautiful! We stayed in the full service cabin and it exceeded all expectations. They had everything one would need to be comfortable. Everything was clean and well maintained. Since the cabins are pet friendly they have pet covers on the chairs which I appreciated. Adding photos of the kitchen and bathroom as the park site did not include these. Contacting the park before my stay was fast and easy and they were very prompt in responding to my inquiries. They did have everything we needed including trash bags, dish soap & sponge, and toilet paper. It was cold the weekend we visited and the heating was great throughout the cabin. I especially appreciated the heating in the bathroom. The porch had a lovely view, there was plenty of wood for the wood stove inside and fire ring outside. And while the campground was completely booked, it was peaceful and quiet the entire time. We drove to Swallow Falls State Park and had an equally pleasant experience. The town of Oakland is charming and quaint. Many things were closed for the season but we still enjoyed sightseeing. Will be...

Cheap cabins, food, and kayak rentals make for a relaxing, enjoyable vacation location. The hiking trails can take you to various views of the lake for some great pictures. The cabins are a great place for a family looking to spend time together or get around to all of Deep Creek Lake's attractions. It's not a particularly interesting bit of nature, partially because it's man-made.

The cabins themselves are well equipped and have more space then you might expect. They feature big porches to support a beautiful view of the forest, and the buildings are nearly pest free save some mice. The only issue with the cabins is that you don't have individual fire pits outside, only a communal one. The power outlets also strangely seem to have variable output, so one outlet could an hour and a half to charge your phone, and the next could take 3 hours.

They have a lot of complimentary things to offer like corn hole, firewood, and an hour of kayak/canoe rental for every day you stay at a cabin. Their service is friendly and the rangers aren't too persistent for...

Attraction: small man-made Beach with very clean truck and sand. During swimming season there are lifeguards and a roped off Kiddy and adult swimming sections. Though the swimming area overall is pretty small Trails: 6.4 mi of trails each Trail being a loop taking you back to the parking area. The trails are very wide and developed is their primary purpose is cross-country skiing. If you're looking for primitive hiking this is not the spot. Note the bottom portion of the red and blue loop is currently closed so I recommend taking the black Trail over to the yellow Trail and then back down in order to complete the hike. Overall it's a pretty lake and a nice beach with lots of lovely looking camping cabins however they are not a lot of trails to fill your day if it is outside of swimming season. Well worth the visit for this lovely State Park especially if you're able to get one of the gorgeous cabins.
