Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland truly is a hidden gem. Despite only being able to explore a fraction of it, the experience was profoundly rewarding. I ventured along the Palos Colorados Trail which, while more challenging than anticipated, was an invigorating journey through lush greenery.
Transitioning to the Sunset Trail was a breeze; this trail was much more accessible, showcasing a panoramic spectacle of beautiful vistas, making the trek well worth it.
Reaching the park via public transport was a bit of a letdown, with the sidewalk from the bus stop to the Palos Colorados Trail entrance leaving much to be desired. This stretch was a little too close to the traffic for comfort.
However, the moment you step foot inside the park, all these concerns fade away, replaced by a serene ambiance that is truly mesmerizing. It's hard to believe that such a peaceful retreat exists just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
While the park is excellent in many aspects, a little improvement in terms of pedestrian access would elevate the overall experience. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly recommend Joaquin Miller Park for anyone seeking a city escape without actually...
Read moreOve been comin here for many years. Back in the day thsre were many concerts here. I've seen Goapele, Frankie Beverly & Maze and many other artists here. I've been coming to Joaquin Miller Park since 2004. I used to be a photographer, and have done many model photoshoots here when the water fountain or whatever it was that had water coming down the bricks was still working. I stopped coming for some years and returned about 5 years ago to do my workouts. I was surprised to see that all the water was drained but it was still nice to come out and enjoy the fresh air without it. During Covid I was here just about every day. Working out from top to bottom on the stairs as well as doing my rounds around the park which is a little over a mile. It's such a great workout, I also love pulling my jumprope out here. It's starting to look as if they are in the process of revamping all the areas that had water and I see they have signs up for future concerts. I love this place. Definitely a good place for working, having a picnic, as well as bringing kids out to the park. During some parts of the winter you'll see the goats out eating...
Read moreJoaquin Miller is a park for everyone. From its children's playgrounds to its historic markers, to its beautiful trails through the redwoods, this park is still a great beauty and an urban treasure. There is so much here, I can't cover it all in one review. Woodminster theatre, with its outdoor performances is a delight, especially during their relatively brief summer musical season. The walking trails off of Skyline Blvd are as beautiful as any the regional parks have to offer. There's an archery range, group and individual picnic areas, fountains (usually not operating during the drought, however) and mountain bike trails. In many areas among the redwood groves, there is ample opportunity to teach your kids about the joys of nature or to build a fort from some of the many fallen branches and trees. A popular place for Oakland's summer day camps, I particularly love the peace and serenity offered by the wonderful trails through the second growth redwoods. Whether you want to hike all day or just take a rejuvenating 20 minute walk, you'll find the perfect trail...
