This has been there before there WAS a Weatherwax. It was the original 'powerline road", which was chopped up when developers moved in. they couldn't abide people not using their roads and bypassing the gates they paid for. So they cut up the entrance from Damon Rd, and called the rest 'Dolphin Ave'. After Ocean Lake Way, it was all sand and potholes, with bits and pieces used in ensuing loops down the peninsula. I wish they'd open it back up, so residents wouldn't have to wander thru all the tourists in town for the summer and give us another route out for a tsunami. Read moreIt's a gorgeous light effort trail, and this is from the perspective of myself a presently morbidly obese person trying to get healthier, just enough terrain change to get your heart rate up some but not so much you turn back soon as you walk through the archway.
Speaking of the archway it looks unassuming when you first pull up in fact if I hadn't been looking for it I probably would have missed it.
But once you step through it's like another world, you're awash in the dappled green sunlight, bird song and a sea of emerald and earth tones. I'll have to take more pictures when I go back.

Read moreThis trail is such an incredible little slice of nature. The trail is a very mild easy hike, but with such a huge payoff! As soon as you step into the area there is a wonderful quiet peace. Everywhere you look there are giant ferns, gorgeous trees, and so many types of mushrooms all over the place! I love searching the fallen trees to see little mushroom habitats. There's also a view of a lake that often has ducks and geese. This is such a great hike if you are looking to escape to nature without having to leave town. It feels like escaping to a little slice of paradise everytime I go. It's a peaceful trail, and I've never run into others while on it. I...
