Worst time ever. I've been camping on the Westside off Lake Ogallala for almost 50 years. First come first served primitive camping, Found out the hard way, No Tent Camping, only self contained campers, plus now a 24 hour pre registration $15.00 per night, plus $8.00 registration fee. Even on West side of Lake Ogallala, and there was not one camper camping on the West side, and the Nebraska Game & Parks still wouldn't let me camp there because I didn't pre register. And I had a 5th wheel, self contained camper. State of Nebraska also took All fire rings out. There also was about one picnic table for 3 camp sites, camp sites were close together, no elbow room. And this is camping???? State of Nebraska trying to close Camping at Lake Ogallala & Big Mac?????? On Big Mac. State of Nebraska collecting fees for Park Permits, then as people would try to set up tents on the beaches State of Nebraska Game and Parks would run them off. When did The State of Nebraska Game & Parks become a Dictator over...
Read moreFirst time visiting Nebraska and of course I had to do some fishing. I purchased a 3 day fishing pass here at Ogallala State Park, east camp ground and pleased with my purchase. There is work being done on the bridge and only one lane is open with a traffic light for two way traffic so be mindful of the construction 🚧 crew. The space is limited and close to the workers work area. Ogallala State Park is beautiful. Campers everywhere and a few other fishermen in boats, on the shoreline 🎣 and paddle boaters. The morning were so crisp and clear, the days were full sunshine 🌞 and plentiful fish and the evening was peaceful and relaxing. We caught about 9 fish 🐟 total. All cat fish and weighing about 5 to 6lbs each. All of them were caught on night crawlers. We did try some trolling with no luck at all. Easy boat launching and plenty of parking. See ya all soon! Say hey...
Read moreWe have been coming here twice a year for the last 3 years. It's always a pleasant stay. The bathrooms and showers are kept pretty clean, although they do get filled with bugs and beetles overnight. We have never had any major issues with needing to use the facilities. As far as campsites go, they are roomy and we always get ones with electric. There are tons of cottonwood trees, so if you are allergic like I am, it gets really really really bad in June and it looks like snow everywhere. There are also mosquitos to deal with, and new this end of June 2023, biting flies that are horrible! I hope they die off or go away. The only thing that kept them off was 40% deet bug spray applied heavy. The last item I have is people are rude and walk through campsites because of ignorance or being lazy, but I guess it is what it is. Camp hosts have always been very...
