Charleston Falls Nature Preserve has an excellent hiking trail that leads hikers past an impressive 30' waterfall. The hike begins with flat or near-flat gravel trail that turns into dirt and eventually stairs that will lead you down to the bottom of the falls. If there has been no rain, the falls may be dry, but if there has been significant rain, the falls will be more impressive. There are some treacherous parts of the hike, which is suitable for small children, just make sure you've got their hand during these parts of the trail. Be sure to visit Cedar Lake, and bring bread to feed the resident fish which consist mainly of bass and blue gill.

Charleston Falls has been coming up a lot as a must see hike and waterfall on Pinterest. I've been waiting for a decent amount of rainfall before I went and I was not disappointed. Although it wasn't a torrent of water coming over the falls, it was a decent amount. I wasn't expecting anything other than the waterfall but the trails are wide and mostly gravel. A few trails are part mowed grass and well maintained. The viewing areas of the waterfall is the lower part accessed by stairs. The other viewing area is actually observation areas along the main trail to the falls. I would enjoy coming back and hike some more of the trails.

Really great trail, two thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻. Dog friendly, as long as your friend is on a 6 foot leash. Bathrooms at parking lot are open as of at least today. Really cool waterfall, kind of in a half cave (you can’t get in the water though). Apparently you can get a mushroom license and pick mushrooms here which is cool. Pretty short hike, nice and shaded with lots of trees. Benches along the way if you need to stop and rest. Clean, easy to walk, well maintained. People who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids may have some issues with the areas around the base of the waterfall because of all the stairs so be prepared.

A fairly easy 1.5 mile hike to a beautiful view of decent sized waterfall with scenic rock formations. The trails are slight rocky and they can be slick with water/ice/mud. Wear adequate footwear and take your time, and you should be fine. We went an hour before sundown and had plenty of time to get to the falls and take photos. It was pretty busy with the parking area being nearly full, but the trails were wide enough to maintain social-distancing. There is a picnic area next to the parking lot with bathroom (with running water). There is a park ranger on duty. Definitely worth a visit. 🤩

This park is well maintained with many hiking paths and a small but nice waterfall. The waterfall is especially nice in the winter when it is frozen. The rest room facilities are much nicer than I expected. The park is well kept, but it is hard to know when the water will be flowing over the falls...we were recently disappointed when we went and there was no water (in July that is probably to be expected). However a number of wildflowers were blooming. The falls are awesome when frozen in the winter. They keep the paths, boardwalks, and stairs cleared in the winter...kudos to them.
